Remember Dane Sardinha and David Espinosa?

The 2 are toiling for the Toledo Mud Hens........and are basically showing why they were never worth the contracts they were given.

DS..... 41 G, 127 AB, 2/17 .205..... 9BB/38K .262 OBP/ .283 SLG
DE...... 38 G, 134 AB, 1/12 .134 ..... 7BB/35K .175 OBP/ .231 SLG

Re: Remember Dane Sardinha and David Espinosa?

I talked to Espinosa at the Reds - Marlins series last fall. He was sitting with his Dad and some friends just behind our seats.

We talked about his contract, and old leatherpants. He agreed that he was a "pretty shady character".

Nice kid, but I think the box seats are going to be as close as he gets to the major leagues.

Did he say anything about his contract? Like, "I got away with robbery"?

No, but I asked him, already knowing the answer, "Scott Boras is still your agent, isn't he?". He kind of sheepishly said "yeah, he is". I didn't want to push him, with his Dad and friends there. But he knew where I was going with it.

He was a nice kid. We talked for a few innings before he left.

Nah.

He's still got plus tools, good plate discipline, and he did manage to post an 813 OPS last year in AAA. Worst case scenario, he'll get a few cups of coffee just based on his physical gifts alone. Best case scenario, he'll carve out a Brady Clark-like career.

Steve, fantastic to see you around here again.

I think I've missed your insight more than any poster I can think of.

BTW, I hope you're right.

Thanks bro.

I actually have been around. I retired the 4192 moniker a while back (I've been using 'CaptainHook' recently), but decided to revive it after the recent changes at Redszone. I figured my chances of getting back into ORG are better with my old username.

That's probably true. I had no idea you were CaptainHook, but I recognized this handle right away.
