Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
Does anyone have baseball america? In the premium part they list players who got away and players who decided to draft and follow. Are there any players for the Reds listed?

Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
This is the last class of draft and follows. The new CBA does away with draft and follows.

Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
Baseball America did mention that the 14th(?) round pick that was a teammate of Stubbs at Texas, with the kidney transplant, has not gone back to Texas yet, and might still sign with Reds.

Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
That would be good news if we could get 14th round pick Carson Kainer signed.

Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
I am glad he signed with the Reds. I hope he has a fast and complete recovery.
http://www.statesman.com/sports/cont...1/1kainer.html By Cedric Golden AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF Wednesday, November 01, 2006 Carson Kainer had planned to return to Texas for his senior season, but the Longhorns' All-Big 12 outfielder received an offer he could not refuse Tuesday. Kainer is skipping his final college season after signing a professional baseball contract with the Cincinnati Reds. Kainer underwent a kidney transplant on Sept. 12 — his father, Ron, was the donor — and he had planned to return to school before negotiations heated up with the Reds, the team that selected him in the 14th round of Major League Baseball's first-year player draft in June. Kainer agreed to a $60,000 signing bonus, and the team also agreed to pay for his final two semesters of college. "I know there are some people who may be upset with me, but it's my lifelong dream,'' said Kainer, 21. "For me to get this opportunity is a blessing and something that would have been hard to pass up." The Reds called Kainer after his surgery and had their doctors examine him this past week. After he was cleared as fit to resume playing baseball, the team made him the contract offer. Reds' area talent scout Mark Snipp said Kainer's physical ability and his mental makeup were the biggest factors in the decision to sign him. Kainer joins former college teammates Sam LeCure and Drew Stubbs in the Reds' organization. "I've followed him since high school, and we always knew he could swing the bat,'' Snipp said. "I told him he could be a pioneer in baseball. He has all this energy, and we hope he can transfer it over to the baseball field." Kainer called Longhorns coach Augie Garrido on Tuesday afternoon to inform him of his decision. Kainer, who batted .364 with a team-high 66 RBIs this past season, also thanked Garrido for his support throughout his career. Kainer said he is jogging 15 minutes a day and plans to start taking batting practice in the next couple of weeks. He plans to attend Cincinnati's spring training camp in March. |

Re: 2006 Draft and follows so far.
14 414 Carson Kainer of Texas TX
This is like a draft and follow signing. The Team wins by signing him and Kainer gets a $60,000 signing bonus, and the team also agreed to pay for his final two semesters of college. He also joins his former roomate and teammate Drew Stubbs and his former teammate Sam LeCure in the Reds' organization. |

Walden Signs For $1 Million Posted May. 30, 2007 11:47 am by Jim Callis Filed under: Draft Dope, Junior College Jordan Walden entered 2006 with the tag as the best high school prospect in the draft, not to mention seven-figure bonus aspirations. He had to wait a year, but Walden got his money Tuesday, agreeing to terms on a $1 million bonus from the Angels. He’ll sign the deal today, the deadline for clubs to come to terms with the last-ever crop of draft-and-follows. After the Angels drafted the righthander in the 12th round last June, Walden turned down a scholarship from Texas and opted to attend Grayson County (Texas) Community College in order to keep his draft options open. Inconsistent as a high school senior, when his velocity dropped to 85-88 mph at times, Walden performed much better this spring. His fastball sat at 92-94 mph and peaked at 97. He also improved his slider and the command of his two primary pitches. He has a classic pitcher’s build at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. Grayson’s coaches also got him to use his changeup more often and toned down his delivery, though it still has some stiffness. He closed his season by striking out 15 and carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning of a regional playoff game. Unless they’re still participating in the Junior College World Series, draft-and-follows must sign by 11:59 p.m. tonight or re-enter the 2007 draft. We’ll be monitoring the highest-profile draft-and-follows–such as righthanders Max Scherzer (independent Fort Worth Cats) and Matt Latos (Broward, Fla., Community College)–throughout the day and will present a complete signing list when it becomes available in the next couple of days.
