Is Freel's health the reason the Reds would want to trade for a middle infielder?
While everybody scrambles to find the deeper meaning to just why the Reds would want a middle infielder in return for Adam Dunn, I suggest you consider the following possibility that the Reds are concerned with the likelihood of Freel returning to a major role this season. Without Freel active, Juan Castro becomes the only true option to spell both Phillips and Gonzalez, and he's not really much of an option is he? My guess is that Krivsky was trying to land a solid (aybar) bat and glove to spell the two normal middle infielders, as well as provide the team with another versatile bat off of the bench.......not Howie Kendrick as was foolishly assumed.
