Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
They rattled off his career numbers on ESPN this a.m. He's got quite an impressive resume.

Outstanding! Biggio is one of my all-time favorite non-Reds. He got 5 hits last night too, pretty impressive.

I'll call that and then raise to among the top five second baseman the game has ever seen.

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
Biggio has always been a great team player, too, shuffling between catcher, CF, 2B. In many ways, a modern day version of Pete Rose.
A HoF'er, for sure. Good for Craig Biggio; I've always admired him. |

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
Biggio is another guy who I've always liked. If you look at how much he has made each year, it becomes obvious from the pay cuts he took several times he fancies himself a lifetime Astro - and simply stayed around for the love of the game and the city. Always a fun player to watch.
Kinda too bad he got thrown out trying to stretch #3000 into a double, though. |

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
For those who didn't see it, Biggio was thrown out at 2nd trying to extend the single to a double. Sort of sad that he hung on past when he was worth starting to get the milestone. He was a HoF before 3000 and didn't need to pad his resume'.
In any case, here are his top 10 comps from Baseball-Reference: 1. Robin Yount (850) * 2. Roberto Alomar (824) 3. Joe Morgan (823) * 4. Paul Molitor (795) * 5. Lou Whitaker (783) 6. Ryne Sandberg (774) * 7. Cal Ripken (764) * 8. Brooks Robinson (759) * 9. Charlie Gehringer (757) * 10. Vada Pinson (752) Not a bad list at all. Put all the hard to measure things like avoiding double plays and defensive flexibility and it's a slam dunk.

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
I heard on the radio that #3,000 for Biggio came on a single in which he was thrown out at second trying to stretch into a "trademark double." Pretty fitting for the Astros' season. They can't even get Biggio's big hit to go right.

Congrats to him.
Now, if he could just retire his 'poop helmet'.

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
And yet the jokers on ESPN want us to believe he's borderline at best.

Re: Craig Biggio Hits #3,000
Any of the RZ historians able to recall a player getting thrown out in this fashion after getting hit #3000? Doesn't diminish the hit obviously, just an odd sight to see a guy have to trot back to the dugout after achieving such a milestone.
