Hargrove Resigns as Mariners Manager

From MLB.com. Quite surprising.

Hargrove resigns as Mariners skipper
07/01/2007 1:53 PM ET
By Jim Street / MLB.com

SEATTLE -- Mike Hargrove resigned Sunday as manager of the Seattle Mariners and was replaced by bench coach John McLaren.
The stunning announcement came prior to the Mariners' series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays at Safeco Field.

In a prepared statement released by the organization, Hargrove said he was stepping aside because his "passion has begun to fade" and it would not be "fair to myself or the team" to continue.

Making his decision even more surprising was the fact the Mariners won their seventh consecutive game Saturday night and have closed to within four games of the AL West-leading Angels.

Hargrove will manage the team on Sunday and McLaren takes over on a full-time basis Monday night when the team opens a three-game series in Kansas City against the Royals.

I didn't think the Mariners were supposed to be any good, and they are only 1 out of the wild card, odd.

Jose Guillen strikes again? Kidding, very weird news though.

Of all people they could choose to interview, Guillen was speaking out the most..."It's like your girlfriend quit on you after you were busting your butt to do well".

Find your passion and come to Cincinnati, Mike.

You can't be or do any worse than Jerry Narron.

Say what you want about him, but Narron's not a quitter.

Hargrove, unfortunately for him, just defined himself. I'm sure there's more to it than what he said publicly.

No one's ever accused Jerry of not being passionate or wanting to win. They would be wrong if they did.

Unfortunately, he's just not very good at it.

no, Jose, it's not the same. I had it happen and it's worse than having your boss quit on you.

now back to baseball.

Re: Hargrove Resigns as Mariners Manager

Hargrove was a man living off of having extraordinary talent in Cleveland for a few years. That got him at least two more jobs - and will land him a golden parachute for some team as a Special Asst to the GM or something similiar.

A lot more to this story will certainly be coming.

And what is wrong with a Golden Parachute or a Special Asst to the GM job? Nice gig if you can get it.
