Re: Who should be the next Manager?
Hey... it's all good! We are in anticipation! It's like watching infield drills and batting practice before the game starts. this is a good thing!

Re: Who should be the next Manager?
Well I might as well throw a name out there as my guy to right the ship.....Glenn Hoffman, he is currently the Padres 3rd base coach, and he has managerial experience before in LADodgers. He is still relatively young and he could be around for awhile. I think he should at least get a look. I want a complete coaching staff makeover, although I do like Brook Jacoby and Billy Hatcher on this staff. Jacoby has made strides with Dunn, and Hatcher was one of my favorite Reds from '90.

Whats Joe Oliver up to? Seems catchers make pretty good managers. I'm just throwing that out there. Flame on!

Re: Who should be the next Manager?
My vote would go to one of the following.
Top choices: Davey Johnson Cito Gaston Dave Duncan Too old but would settle for if we had the right circumstances (we don't): Frank Robinson Jack McKeon Don't know enough about but willing to listen: Joe Girardi ( I know plenty but would like to know more) Glenn Hoffman (I know his mgr history, but not his philosphy by any stretch) Don't want but I'd take: Tony LaRussa (only if he came with Duncan) Bobby Valentine How about a sleeper or 2?: Scott Ullger (Minn. 3rd base coach Joe Vavra (Minn. Batting coach) Odds on favorite: Pete Mackanin

How about Terry Pendleton?

Their training programs are different to suit their bodies. Heck, even some Latin pitchers seem to have endless endurance, particularly the Cubans. North American pitchers used to throw a lot of innings and pitches back in the day. Just look at pitchers from the inception/invention of baseball until the 1970s. |

Re: Who should be the next Manager?
When the Phillies were looking for a new manager (before hiring Manuel), Pendleton was the guy I wanted. He comes from a culture of success, and Atlanta's offense has done well the past few years while he has been their hitting coach. I'd like to see him get a shot as a manager somewhere, and I think Cincinnati would be a solid fit. Otherwise, it appears that the Braves are just grooming him to take over for Bobby Cox once he retires, whenever that will be.

Re: Who should be the next Manager?
I don't see Valentine coming here for the same reasons I don't see Girardi coming here: he'd want to go straight to a winner, preferably a big city. Valentine thrived in New York, and I can't see him leaving Japan (a place he adores) for a place like Cincinnati, where winning is at the very least a year or two away.

Not a single option on that list excites me in anyway.
Ugh - it's going to be a fun few months. |
