Report: Astros to name Cooper manager on Friday
Per ESPN.

The Houston Astros will announce Friday afternoon that interim manager Cecil Cooper will be given the job on a permanent basis, the Houston Chronicle reported, citing a person with knowledge of the situation.

Cooper, who joined the Astros as bench coach at the start of the 2005 season, had served as interim manager since Phil Garner was fired last month. Cooper took over for Garner on Aug. 27, and the Astros are 13-15 with him at the helm.

The team announced it would hold a news conference at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday at Minute Maid Park.

May they meet the same fate at the Reds the last few seasons with their interim merry go round.
