my managerial choice

http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/team/...id=24103141732

probably wouldn't win, but I'd settle for anyone that can break the century-long pitching curse

Pitching coaches have usually not turned out to be good managers.

I'm on board, especially if it means no Baker.

Princeton,

What do you think of/know about Jamie Quirk? Clint Hurdle has gotten a lot of credit for the Rockies' recent success. But I note that 1. it's Jamie Quirk who calls the pitches and 2. the Rockies have the best NL ERA since the all-star break, despite a dearth of top-shelf pitchers.

I for one am a HUGE Jamie Quirk fan. I can't see the Rockies letting him leave.

nada. but I'm in favor of ANYONE that can fix the pitching, especially pitching in a homer-heaven. so it works for me.

The Reds really need to find a former catcher to be their manager....

Who was a worse manager?

Bob Boone or Russ Nixon?

Really?

I know that Boston wouldn't let Ken Macha leave a few years ago, but that was during spring training.

It seems to me it would set a horrible organizational precedent to not let a bench coach interview for a promotion to another team, so long as he gave the organization plenty of notice (say between the World Series and winter meetings).

Bob Boone. Russ didn't have a lot to work with.
