Coaching staff...
So far, not much, but some thoughts from Fay's blog...
Took almost all of yesterday off. We could see coaching moves today. I think Dick Pole will be back, whether it's pitching coach or bench coach is the question. Brook Jacoby could be safe based on what Dusty Baker said about continuity. And really what hitter -- other than David Ross -- had a down year? As for the others, I have no clue. Mark Berry would like to stay in the organization. That Double-A managing job is something he's done before.

Re: Coaching staff...
I don't think he's totally responsible for the state of the bullpen but Hume should be out looking for work.
Will we see Wendell Kim?

Re: Coaching staff...
I tell you what, if the Reds got Leo Mazzone, my worries about the health of the pitchers would be cut in half.

I agree.... but it likely won't happen.

Re: Coaching staff...
I would be OK with Pole as Bench Coach and Mazzone as pitching coach. However, I know how rough Mazzone is on rookies. I also know how poor of a communicator he CAN be if he doesn't like you. A little too much of a primadona if you ask me. Keeping Pole around might cure that but also might be a problem in that respect too. Maybe not a good idea after all.

Is it that he doesn't like certain people, or is it that he has standards that he insists upon players adhering to?

Ron Guidry is the name to watch if he is fired by the Yankees.

Re: Coaching staff...
Dave Stewart was Dusty's pitching coach in the World Series year...
Not sure what kind of track record he has, but the name's intriguing

Re: Coaching staff...
Some interesting names were being mentioned when I was with sportswriters in Charlotte over the weekend. Mazzone, Stewart, and Guidry were all mentioned for pitching coach. They also mentioned Joe Lefebvre and Willie Upshaw. One guy who doesn't cover the Giants but writes for the SF Chronicle chimed in those last two names and said Dusty would clean house.
What do sportswriters know anyhow? |

Re: Coaching staff...
He just has a general burr up his.... Maybe now that he has been knocked down a few pegs his attitude might change. Still a very good pitching coach. I would HIGHLY recommend Ray Miller. No reason he should be sitting at home.

Re: Coaching staff...
Huge fan of Stew's but he is a full time agent now. Also, I remember him as the Padres and Brewers pitching coach but never with the Giants.
