GM Project 2007 - Atlanta Braves

For those interested, we've still got the Washington Nationals and Florida Marlins and they really need your help.

C - Brian McCann (.772 OPS)
3B - Chipper Jones (1.029 OPS)
SS - Edgar Renteria (.860 OPS)
1B - Mark Teixeira (.963 OPS)
2B? - Kelly Johnson (.832 OPS)
2B? - Yunel Escobar (.836 OPS)

Outfield, dependent on how you feel about Jeff Francouer and Matt Diaz.

Pitching

4.11 ERA (3rd NL)
.327 OB (4th NL)
.415 SLG (6th NL)
.703 DER (7th MLB)

Strengths:

John Smoltz (3.11 ERA, .669 OPS against)

I'll take a shot at this one

Kelly Johnson to CF with Escobar at 2B, Francouer in RF and Diaz in LF.
Sign Tex long term.

Derek Lillibridge to Detroit for Jair Jurjens????
Joey Devine, Scott Thorman and Martin Prado for Noah Lowry and Jonathon Sanchez????
Re-sign Chris Woodward and Willie Harris.
Pick-up a cheap bat wth some pop and versatility (Eirc Hinske for example).

Re: GM Project 2007 - Atlanta Braves

Doesn't anyone want to return the Atlanta Braves to glory?

Personally, I'd find out what I could get for Jeff Francouer.

If by "return to glory" you mean, "beat mercilessly in to submission for the pain they've inflicted on the Reds", then I do.

My 2 cents.

- Kelly Johnson to CF
- Yuniel Escobar to SS
- Brent Lillibridge to 2B (or flipped with Escobar if need be)
- Jones platoon with Diaz in LF
- Renteria to DET for Rodney, De La Cruz, some low minors guy I've never heard of
- Moylan in to the rotation mix with Carlyle, Reyes, Larew, Bennet, et al
- Soriano as closer

Didn't Harrison go to Texas as part of the Teix package? Outside of the inevitable Renteria trade, it's pretty much a hold tight season as they reassess their new position post Andruw and with a restructured payroll. My biggest concern if I'm them is Smoltz. I don't see him following the Glavine-esque slow decline. He's gonna have a back or shoulder thing, try to fight through it, and be done in the next year or two. He's going to be a lot more difficult to replace than Andruw or Chipper.

Good catch, they ideed did have Harrison in that deal.

On a different subject, I think the Braves need to figure out what they're going to do with what Smoltz has left in the tank. If they want strike while the Smoltz window is still open, they definitely need another quality starter.

Talk down here is that they're going to move Renteria to make room for Escobar at short. Johnson was really good at 2B this year, especially as a first timer.
