MLB still investigating Reds' grievance against Nationals

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

It has been months since the Reds filed a grievance against the Nationals. The latter is accused of giving Cincinnati damaged goods when they acquired right-hander Gary Majewski in an eight-player trade that sent outfielder Austin Kearns, infielder Felipe Lopez and reliever Ryan Wagner to Washington on July 13, 2006.

There still is an ongoing investigation on the matter, according to Joe Garagiola Jr., senior vice president of baseball operations for MLB.

"There is nothing to report on the Majewski situation. The case is not closed. There has not been a decision," Garagiola said. "I would like to think we are in the final stages of our fact gathering and then we will proceed to make our recommendations."

Garagiola did not give a timetable as to when a decision will be made.

Honestly, how long does it take to figure this out. They can't still be getting any new evidence.

What is the possible reward if the Reds win the grievance?

Seems to imply that an action might be taken.

I don't think the Warren Commission took this long to come up with a decision.

It's moving about as fast as the Mitchell investigation

The Reds did a trade with the Nationals?

Golly, I must have missed it. Was there any discussion here?

They could recommend that Majewski pitch better next year.

Re: MLB still investigating Reds' grievance against Nationals

The larger problem is still that the Reds acquired Gary Majewski when they acquired Gary Majewski. Can I file a grievance with MLB about that?

Not necessarily. I think "make our recommendations" is simply another way
of saying 'make our decision'.

I really doubt this case is a slam dunk against Washington.
If it was, you'd think the Reds would've filed the grievance
in a timely matter. Instead, Wayne spent almost an entire year
doing fact gathering.

Now MLB is doing its own 'fact gathering'.

My guess is that they are waiting for everyone to forget about it.
Isn't that Bud's typical strategy? Ignore the problem and hope it
goes away? That was his strategy for the steroid problem.

I doubt MLB wants to sanction Washington. I also don't think MLB
wants Wayne to look any more foolish by siding with Washington.
MLB is in a no win situation here.

In all seriousness, I wonder if they are waiting for Wayne's tenure
as GM to be up. If they think Wayne might be fired after this season,
it makes sense to wait until then to announce a pro-Washington ruling
(if that's what they intend to do). Likewise, if they think Bowden is
on the edge of being fired, they may want to wait until he leaves as well.
I wonder if Bowden will relive Cincy's new stadium thing.. if he'll be
expected to bring an instant contender to Washington and then be blamed
when the impossible doesn't happen.

And they screwed it up according to many people, so be prepared for the worst. We might get FeLo back. How about them apples?

It's a good thing fans aren't allowed to file grievances against their favorite clubs. MLB's front office would get flooded with them.

I bet it happens more often than we would think.
