Matt Garza
Every sports writer in the country seems to believe Garza will be traded for a young bat. Now the Twins beat writer is pimping a Garza for Carlos Quentin deal.
www.twincities.com/walters If Carlos Quentin is all they are seeking, surely we can offer a LOT more. Maybe something like Votto and Francisco? The Twins also supposedly like Hatteberg. GET IT DONE, WAYNE!

Re: Matt Garza
This seems like a deal that can be made. Hamilton for Garza? Seems like that would easily do it if Quentin is what they wanted.

Re: Matt Garza
Seriously. I would start with an offer of Votto and Francisco if all they were seeking was Quentin.

I'd go Hamilton, Hatty and a minor league arm.

Re: Matt Garza
The Twins are also negotiating with the Red Sox for Coco Crisp. Garza is allegedly on the block in that deal.

Re: Matt Garza
If the Sox get Garza, I have to believe they'd be shipping him elsewhere. Imagine Crisp + Prospect for Garza and then Garza, Lester, Prospect (Lowrie?) for Haren.

Re: Matt Garza
I can see the Reds offering Votto for Garza or Votto and Stubbs. I see Jr. leaving after 2008 to either retirement or FA. without Jr. I see Dunn finally making the switch to 1B. that gives the Reds an OF of Hamilton, Bruce and somebody. I'd hate to lose Votto, but the if the Reds are really going for it in '08, they need another SP.

Re: Matt Garza
That sounds very realistic. The Twins would ask for cash, too, which the Red Sox would happily include.

Re: Matt Garza
I would think the Twins would be a lot more interested in OFs than 1Bs.

Re: Matt Garza
Some, but, remember this is a team that wasted DH at bats on Jason Tyner, so it's not like they'd have to be all that picky about position to wind up with an offensive upgrade somewhere.

Re: Matt Garza
Too bad the Reds have no CFs. I imagine that fact alone removes them from consideration for a deal like this.

Votto's the guy who probably doesn't fit because of Justin Morneau. The Twins have no need for a 1B.

Re: Matt Garza
It's going to depend on what they get for Santana, isn't it? If they get a CFer + pitchers for him, they'll look to fill other positions for Garza or a pitcher they get in that deal. But, if they're even looking at Crisp, it's probably safe to assume they want some serious defense in CF, because they're not looking at him for his bat.
