There are going to be some very good players for us to choose from at pick No. 7 this year. Should be interesting to see how it plays out. Even if no one in the projected top 6 falls to us, there will still be a crop of studs to choose from. I like Tanner Scheppers. When in doubt, always give me the college pitcher with an "electric arm."

I would be happy with any of those listed in the Top 8, although I doubt Posey is a possibility. Matusz has always been my favorite because he would be such a great fit, while Crow is probably my least favorite of the bunch.

Not sure how much the GM would be involved in the selection. Gordon Beckham is the available (by BA's rankings) Chris Buckley pick. However, the BA draft blog indicates that Beckham won't make it past the fourth pick (Baltimore). I wouldn't mind Alvarez, but he won't be around.

The question has to be asked: Will Jocketty and Castellini pay a premium for a player like Alvarez or are they stuck looking at players who will accept slot money? If they choose for slot which players need to be eliminated from the equation?

GM will be involved-- the SD needs to know how much he can spend, and whether that number gets adjusted if a certain player is available.

but I've long thought that Gordon Beckham sounded like the most Buckley-like pick. If he's not available and the Reds don't go for a high-priced guy, then things might get really interesting.
