NL Rookie of the Year 2008
Could it be a Red? You'd have to think, at this moment...the guys with the best shot of winning the NL ROY would be:
Joey Votto Jay Bruce Geovany Soto Kosuke Fukodome Blake DeWitt Jair Jurrjens Hiroki Kuroda John Lannan Justin Upton (could be a factor, but hasn't played well as of late) |

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
Sorry, But Soto HAS to be at the top of the list right now, not Votto. Bruce would be 4th at this point, at best.

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
Bruce's stats are piling quick, he's almost got a third, and in some cases half, the stats that Soto and DeWitt have, in his only two weeks of games.

And I think Soto IS at the top of the list right now. But his overall stats are actually pretty comparable to Votto's. Last edited by fearofpopvol1; 06-08-2008 at 08:56 PM. |

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
I predict both Bruce and Votto will have better numbers than Soto at the end of the season but Soto will win the award because of the position and the team he plays on.

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
Long way to go. Soto struggling some of late and he takes off ever 4th or 5th game so less stats. I would think at year end bot Votto and Bruce would have a good shot. I'd put Soto there now, but dont' think it's going to hold where I do think Votto will continue and Bruce will be great!

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
At the end of the year, I think it will be down to Soto or Bruce. May not be fair, but voters will choose Bruce over Votto from the Reds, meaning Votto will recieve a ton of 3rd/4th place votes.
If I had to guess, I'd say Bruce. He's the most talented rookie, IMO.

One of the announcers a night or two ago said no.

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
He doesn't qualify. He pitched for Texas in 2005, 2006, and 2007, accumulating enough innings that he isn't a rookie anymore.
Edit: I believe you have to start the season with <50IP for it to be considered your rookie season, and Volquez started with something like 80 or so.

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
No he isn't. 50 innings in the majors and you are no longer eligible.

How long are the Reds "in control" of Volquez?

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
I think through 2012, provided arbitration goes ok? If my math is correct, he's first arbitration-eligible in 2010.

Re: NL Rookie of the Year 2008
I guess you could consider Cueto a dark horse at 5-5 now and he's really on a roll. He'd have to kick it in, but when is the last time we had this many great youngsters.
