What did the Reds do to Homer Bailey?
It really baffles me how a guy can go from throwing a consistent 94-96 mph fastball down to averaging 90-92. I realize Homer doesn't have the best attitude in the world but I really put a big chunk of the blame here on the Reds. The big problem he had last year was slowing down runners on the bases. So they decide to change around his delivery and now his velocity is completely gone. I understand the reasoning for them doing that but wouldn't it have made sense to do this when the kid was fresh out of high school? Changing the way a guy pitches after four years in the minors is basically starting all over for the kid. It's going to be quite a while (if ever) before Homer gets the stuff he once had back. It's really a shame the lack of development and teaching the Reds have shown with this individual.
