2009 CHONE Projected Standings
2009 CHONE Projected Standings
American East W L Central W L West W L Yankees 97 65 Indians 90 72 Angels 85 77 Red Sox 96 66 Tigers 85 77 A's 81 81 Rays 89 73 Twins 79 83 Mariners 78 84 Blue Jays 75 87 White Sox 73 89 Rangers 72 90 Orioles 74 88 Royals 72 90 National East W L Central W L West W L Phillies 87 75 Cubs 88 74 Dodgers 82 80 Braves 86 76 Cardinals 83 79 Padres 80 82 Mets 86 76 Reds 82 80 D-Backs 79 83 Marlins 75 87 Brewers 81 81 Rockies 78 84 Nationals 74 88 Pirates 73 89 Giants 77 85 Astros 72 90 Power Rankings Rank Team 1 Yankees 2 Red Sox 3 Rays 4 Indians 5 Tigers 6 Angels 7 Phillies 8 Mets 9 Braves 10 Cubs 11 Athletics 12 Blue Jays 13 Twins 14 Mariners 15 Orioles 16 Cardinals 17 Reds 18 Dodgers 19 Brewers 20 White Sox 21 Padres 22 Royals 23 Diamondbacks 24 Rangers 25 Rockies 26 Marlins 27 Giants 28 Nationals 29 Pirates 30 Astros Power rankings show the relative strength of teams, not considering the division and league they will play in. This is interesting. IMO the NL Central is very weak this year other than the Cubs (and even they have the potential for problems due to fragile health of guys like Bradley & Harden). The Cards hopes rest on Carpenter who hasn't won a game in 2 years. If he can't get it done their #2 starter is ... Lohse. The Brewers have offense but their pitching is weaker. The astros are getting worse. They have Berkmann, Lee, Oswalt & pray for rain.

The Dodgers are only going to win 82 games in the NL West? Way off, IMO. They're going to run away and hide in that division.

Re: 2009 CHONE Projected Standings
How many pre-season standings projected the Rays to win last year?
I don't buy into these a lot because one or more players on a team could flop or catch fire and change these tings A TON.

Re: 2009 CHONE Projected Standings
PECOTA had them winning 92 games IIRC but not winning their division. I wouldn't focus so much on the standings or records for that matter as I would Runs Scored and Runs Allowed...

Why are the Tigers going to be so good, according to CHONE?

Re: 2009 CHONE Projected Standings
Why does Chone Figgins have his own ranking system and why do we care?

Shoot, those rankings don't think much of the entire NL. I doubt the 6th best AL team is better than the best NL team. The NL Central is notoriously under ranked going into a year. Same was true last year yet they did have two entries into the post season |

Re: 2009 CHONE Projected Standings
The Reds are the 6th best team in the NL "on paper/computer" ?
Better than the Dodgers? I mean, I'll take that, but it is somewhat suprising. |

Re: 2009 CHONE Projected Standings
Dodgers have two-fifths of a rotation and no Manny to supplement a weak offense.
They have questions. (Of course, I fully expect Manny to re-sign and LA to be a 90-win team, as he's truly, IMO, a five-win player. Or at least was in LA last season.)

Well, at least it doesn't have one random letter uncapitalized like ZiPS...
