Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

Should we put our picks on this thread since it's the "official" one? It's definitely less cluttered. Do we put comments on the other one?

I think posting picks here is definitely the intention.

Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

Okay, I told you I would make my pick when I woke up.

With the first pick in the 2nd annual RedsZone NFL Mock Draft, the Detroit Lions select Matt Stafford, QB from the University of Georgia.

New MM Detroit GM Martin Mayhew didn't get a chance to ease into his new position as his first major decision will be who to take with the first pick. Detroit could use players just about anywhere on the field, but when you have the first pick and are in need of franchise quarterback there is little room for argument. The Lions have a few studs in Calvin Johnson and Ernie Sims and hope Stafford develops into the kind of quarterback they have been missing since they had Scott Mitchell...

With the second overall pick:

The Saint Louis Rams select

LB Aaron Curry, Wake Forest

St Louis fans grown, "What about the offensive line?" The front office says the offense needs totally rebuilt, but the defense is close, with the addition of this impact linebacker. Orlando Pace, and Alex Barron return for another year, and the draft is not over yet.....

Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

And now, as promised.

Kansas City is going into the draft after making a pretty big splash, dealing their second round pick to the New England Patriots for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel, shoring up two major question marks. With a potential franchise QB in fold, there is no need to invest in Mark Sanchez, and adding Mike Vrabel would mean that KC would likely pass on an Aaron Curry should he be available.

Offensive and defensive line are tempting, with this draft being the deepest offensive line draft in recent memory. However, this is where the sleeper pick comes into play.

Kansas City coach Todd Haley ran the Arizona offense to perfection on route to a Super Bowl, and did so with a veteran QB and two elite wideouts. He now has a potential star QB and a potential star wideout, but another weapon wouldn't hurt.

Without further adieu, the Kansas City Chiefs select, despite injury concerns:

Michael Crabtree, wideout, Texas Tech.

The Seattle Seahawks select DT B.J. Raji, from Boston College.

Conventional wisdom says Crabtree, but even if Crabtree was on the board, I would have gone the other way. This team needs to beef up its D-line in a big way, and it can start with this pick.

With the 5th overall pick in the 2nd annual Redszone mock draft,

The Cleveland Browns select:

CB Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State

This was a tough call, as the Browns were looking very closely at DE Brian Orakpo and OT Eugene Monroe with this pick, but just felt Jenkins was too big of a playmaker to pass up. The Browns are also not scared off by what some might call a poor 40 time at the combine (on a slow turf). Malcolm Jenkins is a football player, period. His versatility is also appealing as he could play either corner or safety. The Browns envision him as a dominant safety in the Ed Reed mold.

Good pick.

Wow, I have a while to wait so I better keep a least half an eye on this thread each day so I don't miss round two.

Re: Official 2009 Redszone NFL Mock Draft:

With the 6th pick the Cincinnati Bengals select OL Eugene Monroe, Virginia.

I've been thinking about this pick for awhile now and decided to protect Carson Palmer. I picked Monroe over Jason Smith because Smith has knee concerns and is less polished than Monroe. I want someone who can step in right away to help fix the offensive line.

Very good pick, Redhook. The closer we get to this thing the more I want them to take an OT.

Carson needs the protection and I don't think we can count on Levi anymore.

LT - Monroe
LG - Whitworth
C - Free agent or draft
RG - Williams
RT - Collins

That would likely have been my pick if I would have kept the Bengals.

I would've loved for the Bengals to sign Brown from Baltimore as a Center, but it appears he's going to sign with someone else (I forget who).

In the 2nd round at least one of the 3 of Mack, Unger, or Wood will be available. I would love for the Bengals to go defense with the 2nd pick and get Wood in the 3rd. I just don't see Wood lasting that long though.

Even if they draft a center I'd like for them to get one to start via free agency. Handing the reins to a rookie to run the offensive line would be a recipe for disaster.
