he almost died in a car accident IIRC. Him and Mateo, the "crash" brothers.
![]() Yup, in 99 evidently. Soriano huh? Scouting Report 2002 Season Two years in a row, D'Angelo Jimenez has been traded at midseason. In 2002 he went from San Diego, where he had spent a year as a regular, to the White Sox. He started 82 of 88 games for the Padres before the All-Star break, including 30 at third base, but was traded to the Sox for two minor leaguers on July 12. He regrouped in the minors and reached Chicago in late August. He played well enough to put himself into the Sox' plans for 2003. Hitting, Baserunning & Defense Jimenez, who was rated ahead of Alfonso Soriano as a Yankees prospect before a life-threatening car accident after the 1999 season, is a professional hitter who seldom gets himself out chasing bad pitches. He's a switch-hitter with some power from the left side of the plate. He has decent speed but hasn't emerged as a basestealing threat. Once rated the top defensive shortstop in the Triple-A International League, Jimenez was erratic there with San Diego and spent most of last season at second and third base. 2003 Outlook Jimenez should be a regular with the Sox, either at second base or shortstop. He's a possibility for the leadoff spot.
