Becketts Suspension
Josh Beckett gets 6 games suspension for his throw against Abreu.
(View here) http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/ar...=.jsp&c_id=bos Six Games??? Let's not assume MLB, you know what mom said about assuming... Bob Watson was a"tough" player, his memory is kinda weak from where I sit... must have been the tootsie rolls. http://www.boston.com/sports/basebal...t_hit_wit.html Quote:

Re: Becketts Suspension
All I can think, WOY, is that baseball took note of the Angels' fractured emotional state that weekend following Adenhart's passing, and decided to step in "on their side".

Re: Becketts Suspension
Six games for Beckett basically is a 1 game suspension. I don't mind that at all. If it were a position player would you be ok with a 1 game suspension?

Assumed intentions? I wouldn't be happy with any attempt of MLB to read Josh Beckett's mind in that split second and determine what was going on. 1 game? 6 games? It's all BS IMO |

You can't assume a double play, but you can assume this.

Re: Becketts Suspension
I don't mind the suspension so much. I agree with you, you can't assume that he threw it at Abreu's head. But Beckett's actions after the fact were embarrassing IMO. He should have just defused the situation and apologized instead of acting like a psychopath, which only escalated the problem. With the Angels being in the mental state that they're in to begin with, he should have been waaaaaaayyyyyyy less confrontational.

Re: Becketts Suspension
He wasn't ejected, though he probaly should have been.
No ejection, no suspension.

Re: Becketts Suspension
Another dust-up about a high & tight pitch in the league where pitchers never ever ever have to step into the batters box.
Anyone know if there are any stats for bench-clearing incidents by league? |

Re: Becketts Suspension
Maybe I've shared this story before, but a business associate played in the minors for the Reds back in the 50's (same time as my friend I mention occasionally). The Reds minor leaguers back then trained in Texas, El Paso I think. Johnny Vander Meer was running the camp that season. This guy was a shortstop and in trying to turn a double play, he threw the ball away avoiding the runner coming in standing up. Vandy ripped him a new one, in the colorful language he was wont to use and told him that the next time he's to aim the ball right through the guys head and he'll get down. Sure enough in the second game, same thing happens. Ken throws straight through and bam, hits the guy square, knocks him flat and the ball goes flying in the air. Different times, no?

Re: Becketts Suspension
Wasn't it Drysdale who plunked a batter when told to intentionally walk someone asking, "why waste three pitches?".
