Re: Friday 7/10/09 minor league updates

Went to the Bats game tonight....

- Stewart threw in 94-96 mph range for most all his pitches. He finally threw an off-speed pitch to a batter at 80mph and struck him out. One of those hits he gave up could have been an error on Valaika.

- Clippers were hitting Maloney hard through the first few innings, even when they were outs. He does not miss bats very well.

- Carmona was throwing heat most the game, from 93 to 94 consistently, maybe getting 95 periodically. The first 2 innings were easy for him, but Bats came alive afterwards.

Re: Friday 7/10/09 minor league updates

As someone at the Bats game, Maloney was like a lot of starters: get to him early if you're going to get to him at all. The heavy hitting Columbus lineup did just that. But Maloney held them in check afterward.

Heisey's HR was a no doubter off the bat. 428 feet.

Stewart was not sharp. He was enough to get the job done but his command was off.

Clippers reliever Lewis was strangely effective. He didn't throw more than 91 but he threw from the stretch and his motion made it seem that he was throwing much harder. He struck out the side in the 8th.

Sutton was painfully weak at SS. Heisey stole a base but compared to Stubbs, he looked slow and plodding.

I didn't pay that close attention but I never saw Maloney's fastball over 89

Says it all in terms of how these two have been compared over the years.

Did he look slow and plodding on his HR?

Vazquez came out of the game because it had been halted twice for rain delays.
