Friday, August 14, 2009 - Minor League Updates
I just noticed that there isn't an update from last night, so here it is . . .
Louisville shutout Toledo 4-0 - got 2 runs in the 2nd and one each in the 7th & 8th Klinker with the W - 7.1IP 2H 3BB 9K 1WP Viola with the S - 1.2IP 1H 3K Stubbs 2-5 with a run scoring 2B Eymann 2-4 with a 3B Denove 2-4 with 2RBI McDonald 1-2 with an RBI Heisey 1-4 with a SB Valaika 1-3 with a run scored and BB Heisey and Bolivar with SBs Every position player with a hit except for Dorn Denove with an error Stubbs nailed a guy at home. Carolina lost 11-6 to Birmingham despite allowing only 6 hits. Birmingham had a 5-run 3rd and a 3-run 6th, which broke open the game. How did Birmingham score 11 runs on 6 hits, you ask? Carolina walked TWELVE!!! Ward 2.1IP 6ER 3H 6BB 1K 1WP (he is now 0-3 with a 23.14 ERA in his 2nd Reds' stint) Gil 2.2IP 3ER 2H 2BB 1K (came in with the bases loaded and allowed all three runs to score, then gave up a 3-run, 2 out homer in the 5th) Francisco 2-4 Kainer 2-4 with a run scoring double and run scored Parker 2-3 with 3RBI (run scoring double and 2-run single, also run scored) Henry 1-5 with a RBI Frazier 0-2 but had a RBI and 2 runs scored Cozart had a hit and a run scored Bour, Tordi and Frazier with errors Bour with a PB Kainer nailed a guy at third base Carolina turned 2 DPs. Sarasota beat Ft. Myers 3-1 Partch with the win - 7IP 0ER 5H, 6K, 1BB Thurman finished out the game for the save - 2IP 0ER 2H 0BB 0K Louwsma went 2-3 with a 2B, run scored and RBI Buchholz 1-4 with a run scoring 2B Wiseman 1-3 with a RBI Phipps 0-3 but scored 2 runs Soto 0-4 with a K Phipps, Carlson and Buchholz with SBs Reed with an error Sarasota turned 1 DP. West Michigan used a 5-run 4th and 3 HRs to beat Dayton 9-7 Ware took the loss - 4IP 8H 6ER 3BB 0K 1HR Walker relieved and didn't do much better - 4IP 4H 2ER 1BB 2K 2HR Joseph cleaned up with a 1-2-3 9th Sosa 2-3 with 2 runs scored Brown 2-3 with a run scoring 2B and a run scored Wiley 1-5 with a 2 run homer in the 5th Feiner 1-4 with a 3-run 2B in the 2nd Coddington 1-4 with 2 runs scored and a 2B Rojas 1-2 with a run scoring 2B Puckett and Oliveras with SB Wiley and Puckett with errors Dragons turned 1 DP Coddington allowed 2 SBs. Billings loses to Casper 7-3 (it was 7-0 after 4 innings) Crabbe took the loss, leaving with the bases loaded in the 3rd - 2.2IP 7H 6R 5ER 1BB 3K 1HBP Chiu and Gardner allowed one run the rest of the way. McMurray 1-4 with a solo HR in the 9th Kuo 2-5 with a run scoring double in the 8th Gregorius 2-4 with a run scored Rodriguez 2-5 with a run scored Richburg 1-3 with a run scoring single in the 8th Rodriguez and Kuo with errors Garton nailed a guy at home Mustangs turned 1 DP McMurray threw out a guy trying to steal. GCL Reds lost to the Twins 6-3 (it was 5-0 by the 6th) DeJesus pitched a scoreless 1st but then came out Tuttle 3IP 5H 4R 2ER 1BB 3K Driessen 2IP 1H (a HR) Sierra 3-4 with a 2B and run scored Rodriguez 2-4 with a run scored and RBI Pimentel 2-4 with a RBI Manz 1-3 with a 2B Hernandez 1-3 with a 2B and run scored Morrison 1-3 a run scoring 2B Duran 1-4 with a K Duran and Rodriguez with errors Manz with a PB Reds turned 3 DPs. Nice job, DK. Thanks.
Matt Klinker has made an interesting ascent this season. He started somewhat poorly at Sarasota, put together a hot streak in Carolina and now throws a lights-out game in AAA. My guess is they moved him up to determine whether they want to protect him in the Rule V draft. He's making a case. |

I was at that Bats game last night. I came in with not much confidence in Klinker. What a pleasant surprise to see that gem he threw.
He didn't get in the game but Ondrusek was warming right in front of me. It is kinda stupid to say knowing he's 6'7" but DAMN, that guy is tall. It was nice to see good Viola for a change. |
