Re: Some Az Fall League info Showing up

Unless I don't know what I am doing, I am looking at the Peoria Seguaros roster for the upcoming season. I see Ondrusek, Valiquette, Watson, Alonso, Cozart, and Heisey. No Leake.

Interestingly, the picture of Watson on the Louisville web site shows him in a Bats hat, but within a Seguaros frame. Is it me or does Watson seem to have a size 48 face?

Leake isn't official yet, but he will be there once he gets approved. All of the guys are shown with their AFL team frames I believe.

I would have liked to have seen Francisco get sent there too.

I have to imagine Francisco will be playing winter ball in the Dominican again. After what he did last year if he wants to play, he has a spot. That leaves open a spot in the AFL if you don't send him for someone else.

Re: Some Az Fall League info Showing up

Isn't there some kind of rule that a kid can't play AFL league if his country has winter ball?

yep -- especially Valiquette and Watson -- I think Ondrusek would have to pitch very poorly not to make it

Yes, you are correct:

Quote:
The eligibility rules to play in the AFL are simple.

The roster size is 30 players per team.

Each Major League organization is required to provide six players subject to the following requirements:

* All Triple-A and Double-A players are eligible, provided the players are on at least a Double-A level roster no later than Aug. 1.
* One player below the Double-A level is allowed per Major League team.
* One foreign player is allowed, as long as the player does not reside in a country that participates in winter ball, as part of the Caribbean Confederation or the Australian winter league.
* No players with more than one year of credited Major League service as of August 31 are eligible, except a team may select one player picked in the most recently concluded Major League Rule 5 Draft.
* To be eligible, players on Minor League disabled lists must be activated at least 45 days before the conclusion of their respective seasons.

If the above post is true, how did Pedro Viola participate in the previous 2 AFL's?

Re: Some Az Fall League info Showing up

Leake should be in the starting rotation, but Alonso and Cozart will have to split time. (Especially Cozart-- there are FIVE shortstops on the AFL team's roster.) Heisey, because of his versatility, may be asked to play all three OF spots, instead of focusing on one.

I wonder if that's a new rule this year. I can't recall and can't find any history to verify it one way or another.
