Can it be? Yes, it is Chris Denorfia, cut loose by the As.

Re: Minor League FA list

If he's healthy, Chris Capuono could be worth a spring training invite. As could Josh Barfield if he can play SS, but I think he's only a second baseman.

Capuano was the name I noticed first as well, Others include:

Danny Sandoval, Devern Hansack, Brent Clevlen, Ryan Shealy, Greg Miller, Kyle Snyder, Humberto Sanchez, Oneli Perez, Chad Cordero are the interesting ones.

Hard to believe Jackson Melian is still bouncing around pro ball

Same with Espinosa

Re: Minor League FA list

Man, Jon Coutlangus got seriously hurt. He barely even pitched in the Arizona system. Wouldn't mind giving him another shot.

I think the only guy on the Reds list I really need to see more of is Alex Smit. Shaun Cumberland is ok too. Maybe Chris Kroski.

Hey, Nate- you care if we use this thread to update signings and such throughout the winter?

I think a mod would have to.

Re: Minor League FA list

Names from this Baseball Prospectus article from Joe Sheehan. I am not personally advocating the pickup of anyone in particular beyond the return of Mr. Smit.

-Ruben Gotay, INF (Arizona)

-Travis Denker, 2B (Boston)

-Charlie Zink, RHP (Boston)

-Alex Smit, LHP (Cincinnati)

-Scott Strickland, RHR (LA Dodgers)

-Steven Shell, RHP (Mariners)

-Chris Burke, UT (Atlanta)

-Jerry Owens, OF (Mariners)

-Mark Kiger, INF (NY Mets)

-Ryan Shealy, 1B (Kansas City)

-Scott Munter, RHR (Colorado)

-Derrick Loop, LHR (Boston)

-Brent Clevlen, OF (Detroit)

-Mike Koplove, RHR (Seattle)

-Dallas McPherson, 1B-3B (Florida)

-Dee Brown, OF (LA Dodgers)

-Ehren Wassermann, RHR (Chicago WS)

Re: Minor League FA list

Koplove pitched extensively for Ariz. from 2001-2006. I think I counted 217 appearances. With our new pitching coach, I wonder if he could be headed our way?

Re: Minor League FA list

Gotay, Smit and Koplove appeal to me from the above list.

I'm partial to Shealy and McPherson, but if Alonso's going anchor 1B for the Bats, and Frazier and Francisco vie for playing time at 3B and in LF, I'm not sure if Shealy or McPherson represent a good fit for us this season.

Also, if we're short an outfielder, we could do far worse than Dee Brown. He's slick on many scores, but might be the prototypical AAAA kind of guy.

We're probably better off focusing on middle infielders, southpaw relievers and overlooked righty SP's that might have some juice left in the tank.

He didn't make the Baseball Prospectus list, but I've always thought that the Reds cut Coutlangus loose too soon. Wouldn't mind the team taking a flyer and giving him another chance to stick.
