Gravel.

I once saw a COP CAR abandoned in in the middle of 1-85 south.

When I lived in Raleigh, the most annoying thing of all was the reaction of northerners to snow. Most southern municipalities have it right, just hunker down for a day and it will pass, rather than a massive investment in salt and plows that will get used once a year, if that.
But it never failed, every time it snowed all the New Yorkers would squawk ad nausea about how the incompetent city couldn't keep the roads clear.

I live in Lubbock, Texas and few years back the forecast was 80% chance of snow with accumulations up to about a foot. You would of thought the Apocalypse was at hand by the lines at the grocery stores. Funniest part of the story? Not one snowflake fell from the sky.

I instantly started to laugh as soon as I read the thread title. It's amazing how many people become dumb when it comes to driving in snow. I just wish we had this little snow storm before xmass.

White bread and milk? That's what they go for here. I guess you can survive a long time, eating toast and drinking milk.

That happened too sometime in December when they called for a 5 mile wide iceburg to fall from the sky and crush the metro area like a giant icy anvil.

They were buying everything that wasn't nailed down.

That is what usually happens in Cincinnati. The weather guessers predict big snow fall, break into TV coverage every 30 seconds with an update. Then you get up the next morning, and there is a 1/2 inch.

Re: Cincinnati reaction to snow

It may surprise you to learn that on those rare occasions when we get snow in Norfolk/Va. Beach, the drivers are all conscientious and under control, and no one makes panic trips to the grocery store.

Ok, it's actually the exact opposite of that.

Re: Cincinnati reaction to snow

Channel 12 news just showed how to dress to go out out in the snow! If I hadn't seen it, I would have worn my swimsuit and flip flops instead of a coat, hat, and gloves!

P.S. The school system I teach in is already on a delay for tomorrow.

Weather porn. They do the same thing for thunderstorms in the summer. They have to use that Ultimate Doppler Viper Wonderboy radar that see your underwear from 50 miles away for something.

Re: Cincinnati reaction to snow

I, without giving details, experienced first hand how the media tries to "create stories" this past Monday....the panic over the impending snow storm is definitely caused by the media..

30 years ago cars weighed twice as much and thus were able to handle better in the snow than cars now. With that said, people in Cincinnati do seem to go a bit crazy over a little snow.
