Dorn could probably take over for Nix.

Fixes bench issue and adds a back up 1st baseman in the process. I dont care if hes a lefty, although I'm guessing the Reds cant get past that little fact.
Dorn is out several weeks because of a broken hand. On the DL.

Re: Reds Top Prospects- May Edition

I don't think anyone with much value outside of Maloney should be coming up any time soon. These guys all need to establish more than a hot streak at AAA. The two best candidates were Dorn and Francisco and they are both hurt. Maloney, maybe Lecure maybe another look for Ondrusek or a first look for Del Rosario.

I think, if the Reds are looking for immediate help, jouneymen like Corky Miller, Wilkin Castillo or Ben Jukich may be the most likely to provide it at this point.

I know this I'm just saying in general.

He's doing well, but I'm not sure he's even the best starter on his team. Scott Carroll has a 1.88 ERA, a better WHIP and a 2.71 GO/AO ratio.

It's time he starts getting some talk. 3rd round pick, throws groundballs, and his numbers are getting better every year.

Any idea why Carroll's K's are so low?

Re: Reds Top Prospects- May Edition

I assume given his 2.71 GO/AO ratio that he's a guy that has hitters hitting the ball into the ground rather than blow them away. (Exactly the kind of guy we need at GABP, BTW)

I love the ground outs for Carroll but the K's are going to have to come up somewhat. Only 8 through his first 24 innings, or 3 per 9 innings.

It might also be worth noting that Scott Carroll will turn 26 this year and is still playing in high A-ball.

. . . which is pretty old for his current level. I'd like to see how he fares against his peers before getting too excited.

The tough thing is, if it weren't for the fact that Dorn is strictly a LF in the outfield vs. Nix being able to play all three OF positions in a pinch, Dorn's bat should have been here anyway.

Re: Reds Top Prospects- May Edition

BTW, Scott Carroll got promoted to AA and started tonight. Not the greatest start, but only gave up 1 earned run in 5. 3 errors in 1 inning did him in.

1.8O ERA in AA now.

Re: Reds Top Prospects- May Edition

Gotta give some love to Sean Henry.

I've always liked the guy and still think he can become a Chris Dickerson-type contributor....starter for a bad team for a season or two, or 4th or 5th Outfielder for a contender for several seasons.
