Or maybe it's a total focus on getting the current team over the top. Pick guys who can help in 2012-13.

Then they already failed. The odds that a single guy from this draft can do that is slim.

Or at least make the 2012 Carolina Mudcats extra super scrappy.

Might they be drafting to try to replace what will be traded? Walt is going to pull the trigger on some deals and no one knows what he will give up, but many will not like it.

These guys aren't going to pass up guys like Francisco, Frazier, Heisey, Sapplett, Valakia, Dorn... Notta chance. Have you paid attention on the slowness they move most college players through the system?

It'll be 2013 2014 before one of the guys under Grandal makes it to the bigs.

You don't think that anyone that has been drafted by the Reds will be able to help this team in 2013?

Grandal is the only one. He could be here by 2012 though...

Grandal, MAYBE. In the latter half of the season. Everyone else looks more like a back up player and are well down any and all depth charts at this point, even if we project forward.

Dorn was just left unprotected in the Rule 5 draft and no one took him. Maybe it has more to do with the player than it does with their philosophy.

Heisey was in single A for most of 2008, now is with the big club.

Eldemire is still out there- but given who the Reds have taken so far, I don't see them taking yet another college OF, even a toolsy one.

He was drafted in 2006 and that was 4 years ago. 2010 + 4 years = 2014 and he wouldn't be here now if Dickerson didn't have crystal for bones.
