In theory, sure, but the Reds acquired Edmonds to have veteran playoff experience. If he's off the DL, Alonso won't be sniffing the playoffs.

I don't think playing time is worth worrying about. He gets to be in pennant chase, learn from Votto and Rolen, and gives another lefty bat off the bench in key spots.

Reds adding a lefty to the bench. Last time that happened Chris Heisey got benched and Laynce Nix got a ton of playing time.

For real though great fit for this club right now. His power has been coming back, will likely give good ABs and can give Votto a break if the Reds clinch early although the TC race might have something to say in the end.
