That only leaves picking one up via trade or bringing one through the entire draft process and minor league system.

Because of this, that trade gets made 10 out of 10 times, as we are still looking for an ACE.

We don't need a CenterFielder, nor do we need a Left-Handed Power bat that hits for average, too.
#1 Edinson Volquez was not an Ace at that time.

#2 The Team Traded Dunn and Griffey so why Trade the only Good Power bat that you would have control over for 5 more years?

#3 You all will bring up his All-Star 17 Win Season.

#4 Go check and see the Stat Geek WAR on both players over the same time period.

No Contest who the Better Player was for Team Contribution.

Trade Sucks.

10 out of 10 Times...

100% agree

There is no comparison. Volquez has had one good year on a losing team. Hamilton has been productive every year since the trade.

#1 Never said he was. Said, "the attempts to acquire one have to be made". That's why we paid the big bucks for Chapman, and why he'll go back to being a Starter in the Minors next season. The "relief role" was just a temporary thing in order to keep his innings down along with using him for the playoff run/playoffs. Volquez is our best chance at having an ACE in the rotation for 2011 and 2012. Chapman won't be ready for Starters' Innings until 2012, and won't be the ACE.

#2 Because he's not the only good power bat that we have. Guess you've never heard of Jay Bruce. Also, Power bats are much easier to come by. Look up where the REDS ranked last season in HR's by National League teams. You'd think we were last by your ideas.

#3 17-Win seasons are rare for a REDS' pitcher over the last 10+ years. Those are accolades to hang one's hat on. Give me 17-Win Pitchers every day of the week over Josh Hamilton.

#4 It's all about who can help the REDS the most win a Championship. Josh Hamilton isn't going to do that any more than he helped Texas win one. Oh yeah...they didn't win, did they? Because the Giants had BETTER PITCHING!

#1 Wrong.
#1a. Chapman probably will go back to Starting

#2 Jay Bruce is a Power Hitter but he was not supposed to carry this team in the Power Department at that time. This team did not know what he would be on a full time basis in the Majors.

#3 You're right about the 17 Game winners. But WRONG on the rest of your sentence. How many times has Volquez won 17 Games since the Trade? Once in 3 years. On a losing team I might add.

#4 You are totally WRONG Dude. Over the last 3 years who has been more productive between the 2 players? Volquez of Hamilton?
#4a. Yes the Giants pitching was better. Great assessment.

#5 The reason you are wrong is because while yes, teams need to have great pitching to win. Hamilton was a guy out of baseball for 4-5 years and came on to hit 19 Homers. Vazquez was almost released by the Rangers at that point. At the time of the Trade, Daniels was greatful to rid himself of Edinson Volquez and get a Outfielder with Power in return. Look up the stats sir. The Reds have been horrible at drafting until recently the last 20 years since 1990 thanks to a large part by Marge Schott through the eraly 1990's and carried over into the 21st century. The Reds havent developed many of their own young Starters for a LONG LONG Time... Leake and Cueto are it in the last Decade dude. That follows up on your 17 Game winner Reds theory.

#6 That Trade wasnt even good when Volquez won 17 games. Hamilton has 2 All Star games, 1 Silver Slugger, 1 NL MVP, and 1 World Series apperance since then.
