Who do you think will have their breakout year
This year I think Bruce and Stubbs both will have big breakouts years.
Bruce will go over 30 hr's and 100 rbi's and a top 5 mvp season and Stubbs just all around with higher avg, hr. rbi's', sb and he will get the k's down |

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
I agree with the two you listed, and they were the ones I thought of primarily thinking of breakout years. I'm also hoping Volquez returns to his all-star form after a couple recovery years.

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
If Stubbs and Bruce have breakout years and Volquez is on top of his game like we all hope...Watch NL Central were coming for you again.

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
Not sure if you would say that it would be a breakout year, but I expect Janisch to do a credible job at the plate - maybe .700 OPS - and play stellar defense. He'll play the majority of the time at SS.

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
Bruce is my #1 pick after the way he finished last year. Cueto has improved steadily and is still young, if he improves a little more from last year he could be a legit TOR starter. Wood is another one who could have a big season. As far as the verterans, Renteria could be a surprise help at 3B and SS. He just won the WS MVP and that kind of thing energizes a player.

bruce is the obvious answer, it's close to a given with him. cueto is also a good candidate.

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
I don't care if its obvious, Jay Bruce for me.
I love Drew Stubbs, but he basically "broke out" last year. He played great for him and I hope he can repeat it this year. I just don't see the potential to push to another level the way Bruce can. Likewise, Volquez has had his breakout season and we've seen his ceiling. We're all just hoping he can be that guy again. If I had to pick another one it would be Chapman. His overall stats may not be special for a specialist, but I suspect there will be stretches of this season where he is unhittable in the 7-8 innings and that is a weapon over the course of 162 games.

Re: Who do you think will have their breakout year
I will say the whole starting rotation will be the breakout story.
Can't really call Volquez a breakout since he's already done it. But I think he'll rebound. I think Cueto will show improvement. And I think the real breakouts will be Wood and Bailey. If healthy I expect both Wood and Bailey will be under 4.0 ERA's for the year. All the talking heads ranking the rotations of the Phillies, Brewers, Giants and Cardinals are forgetting the depth and potential of the Reds young starters. We could legitimately have 4 starters with ERA's below 4 and one or two may flirt with the 3.0 barrier. This is the breakout year where they will soon be recognized in the category of the other teams mentioned. |
