Setting the Tone
Today we have a chance to go out and set the tone for the rest of the year. By winning today we signal to the Brewers, Cards, and the rest of the division that we are the team to beat.
Dusty needs to realize that this game is as big as any this year as it is the type of game that sets the tone for the rest of the year and declares we are the BIG DOG in the division and you are the also runs. He needs to play Rolen today and not rest anybody else. Redsfans bring your Beer and Brooms down to GABP today and sweep the Brewers out of town. |

Re: Setting the Tone
I was thinking about the same thing. I'm greedy this year. I want to stomp them and start resting guys late in the year. Every game matters. I want to be talking about keeping fans interested and still selling out the place with a 10 game lead in July.
Couldn't have said it better. Set the tone.

Re: Setting the Tone
I was hoping this was about the Rolen quote discussing the Brewers in this article about last night's game.
Quote:
This would be a great tone to set in the clubhouse, too. There's no need to call division rivals "whiny" and worse. Just tip your cap to 'em in the press and win on the field. |

Re: Setting the Tone
A win today means 'we' start with a three game handicap, while a loss provides a one game head start.
Either way is nice, but still a win would be Awesome

Re: Setting the Tone
On 700 WLW this morning, I heard that every time the Reds won a World Series they started the season at least 3-0. So, if you believe in these kind of stats, a win today is everything.

Re: Setting the Tone
Make no mistake about it, the tone can't be set until April 22-24. You want to set a tone, set it then.

Re: Setting the Tone
Journal Sentinel in Milw does a game blog for each game, with reader comments. It's good reading if you are a Reds fan:

Re: Setting the Tone
The baseball season is a marathon, not a sprint.
This game was pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. |

Re: Setting the Tone
Psychologically, I agree. But a win is a win....and in the grand scheme of things, far from meaningless...in fact it's ALL of the meaning. But I know what you mean.
