Reds activate Fred Lewis off DL

Associated Press

CINCINNATI -- The Reds activated outfielder Fred Lewis off the disabled list and optioned outfielder Jeremy Hermida to Triple-A Louisville.
The moves came before the second game of their series against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
Lewis strained muscles in his right side during spring training and went on the disabled list. He started a rehab assignment on April 14. The Reds signed him to a one-year deal in January, hoping he could play left field and bat leadoff occasionally.
Hermida was called up on April 18 and started three games. He went 2 for 18 with one homer.

Re: Fred Lewis activated

Give him the starters's job in left and relegate Gomes to right bench.

Send down Leake and Smith to make room for Bailey and Cueto.

Find room for Dave Sappelt.

Re: Fred Lewis activated

For some reason, Dusty just doesn't like Lewis. He's not an all-star, for sure, but seems like a suitable player at the ML level. Anyone know Dusty's issue with this guy?

It's the first time he's been off the DL since the season began. You may be right about Lewis being in Dusty's dog house but there's nothing to base that off.

He's a year removed from high-A ball with questionable power. But it sure looks like he can hit with decent speed. If the Reds continue to flounder, maybe he'll get a shot, but not to play once or twice a week.

Doesn't matter, Lewis will see less playing time then Hesiey does. Either Walt needs to grow a pair and tell Dusty to play him or Dusty needs to grow a pair and tell Walt he needs to release him because he is just not going to play him and it is wasting a roster spot.

Anyone catch the telecast where they said before the game Dusty had a "meeting" with Castellini before the game?

Hopefully BC fired Dusty.

We might start winning if that happened.

He probably said.

"We hav got to go out and get an ACE Starter if you want to improve the % of Wins the Reds of the way... and to be competetive in the Playoffs..."

Get on it! Trade for Felix Hernadez & Josh Johnson and laugh all the way to the World Series...

You do know that neither of them will be traded and even if they were, the Reds don't have the monies to take their contracts on...

Lewis has been known to have some attitude problems, but I have no idea if that is Dusty's issue with him.

Re: Fred Lewis activated

Then why was Lewis signed to start with if Baker didn't like him.

Gomes holds compromising pictures of Dusty....only logical explanation.

Re: Fred Lewis activated

I think you are looking into the comments too far. I think he's just saying Hermida didn't really get a fair shot and they would like him to get more AB's.
