You'd also take Gomes over Heisey.

It would be really nice to see Heisey do something when he gets a start.

Anything.

Leake isn't good and never will be. Nothing in his metrics say otherwise. It's time to send him to AAA and find a way to move him.
But he's so savvy out there! Get Arredondo up here. Leake's stuff might work as an innings eater at the back of the rotation someday, but there are much better options for the bullpen.

Heisey as a starter has done little to nothing as a starter. For whatever reason, he kills it as a sub and gets killed when he starts. No idea why.

As opposed to Gomes sub-.200 bat? At least Heisey plays defense.

Re: Reds at Astros (5/11/11)

Heisey just started 3 straight games last week against Houston and had 3 hits, 2 walks, 2 runs, and 1 RBI.

In other words, about an entire month of May's worth of Gomes.

And brought his OPS as a starter up to just above .600. Outstanding.

All four runs allowed got on base via the walk.

I don't think it makes a difference who catches him. He can't throw strikes.
IIRC, Hernandez caught his only QS this year.

Yeah, EV needs to figure out how to pitch. If he does that, he might be something.

First time the guy ever pitched out of the bullpen IIRC, and he's thrown in a tie game. This is a dumb move by Dusty.

Re: Reds at Astros (5/11/11)

At the risk of repeating myself, there are pitchers and there are throwers. Pitchers know how to be successful by using their heads, knowing what will work and what will not, and making changes throughout the game when the desired things are not happening. Throwers just throw the ball, usually with a lot of steam on it (or sometimes not ) and hope for the best. Volquez is in that thrower category.

When I looked his 7-game stats just now, I have to wonder why we keep sending him out there every 5 days. No improvement whatsoever. Send him to AAA? I don't think it would do much good unless they've got a shrink at Louisville.

I'm sure this is an enormous sample of at bats. You might as well chisel that .600 OPS in stone.
