I find that my summer bills for electric pretty equal my gas bills in the winter. Up until a few years ago I usually got by cheaper in the winter. But natural gas prices have risen quite a bit in the last decade and you can't say gas is cheaper any longer.

In our house, the big gas bills in the winter (furnace) are usually more painful than the big electric bills (A/C) in the summer.

Ever.

We just open our windows.

It's kinda nice.
I guess it depends on the person, I was told multiple times when I moved to Western NC that the AC would never be needed because of the cool mountain air.

Lies.

I have an oil tank that I have to fill, 10 years ago it was $1.65 a gallon, now it's $3.20.

Probably use about 275 gallons from October to May

Re: Air Conditioning Help

Update: Absolutely nothing has been done about it....we've had it shut off and the temp still stays around 88 degrees all day/night....it was so bad that I let the gf go sleep in the car with the A/C on because the heat was making her physically sick. The Landlord said for us to try a few things, but I didn't get off work last night until 8pm, maintenance and landlord leave at 5, and by the time I realized that didn't work, it was another night of sweating to death in our room, with 3 fans and the windows open. I know temps are supposed to cool down, especially next week into the 50s, but tonight we may go stay in a little motel just to get a good nights sleep.

You live in an apartment? I'd tell the landlord/maintenance to get their rear end in there while I was away and fix it. They've got keys.

I second that. I would also press for a concession on this month's rent, as many reputable landlords will be willing to do so (I got a $500 concession for major problems last August, for example). My landlord responds to our maintenance request within hours--often minutes. Granted, we live in a fairly high rent place with a full time maintenance staff and the residents expect nothing less. But that shouldn't matter. I'm a former landlord and would be ashamed of responding so poorly to your needs.
