Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
If we were redoing this now post spring training, I wonder if Scott Carroll would go higher. Also, Frazier and Valaika seem to me too high, but I hope I'm wrong about that.

Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
I thought Hotchkiss was kind of low, given his performance the last two years, and Brian Pearl seemed to come out of nowhere--largely, I think, on the plug from doug, which is as good a reason as any. There was a late rush toward Ramos, based on scouting reports, and I suspect he would have been ranked higher if that information had arrived sooner.
My next ten, in no particular order, would be Wes Mugarian, Blaine Howell, David Vidal, Chase Ware, Justin Freeman, Samuel Diaz, Juan Silva, Abel de Los Santos, Theo Bowe and Miguel Rojas, even though he hasn't done much with the bat. And it was hard to keep Jaren Matthews off that list. Not a bad group to still be at-large after the top 50. Last edited by mace; 04-02-2011 at 10:07 PM. |

Pretty surprised that Mugarian wasn't in the top 50.

Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
For Me, Valaika should be in the mid 20s. I don't see why Lotzkar is ranked so highly w/o some proof that he can hold up after a few innings pile up on his arm. I'd say he's a longer shot than many guys who didn't make it. I like Danny Dorn, but it seems the Reds don't see him as more than an organizational guy, so he should be way lower or off the list completely.
I'm thinking a guy who has a Juan Castro like career ahead of him could be Miguel Rojas. I wonder if he can even have a career with some Adam Everett type seasons as an impact defender at SS on a team with a bunch of bats. The Brewers would probably be a better team with Rojas starting right now. I'd say he should be in the 40s somewhere. David Vidal intrigues me as does Brodie Greene and Jefry Sierra.

Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
I agree. I like him better than the last 5 guys on this list for sure, at least as of now.
On a separate note, I would imagine if we did this poll again, Sappelt might move up some spots. Not sure how many, but some. I'd also imagine that Joseph was quite overrated and he would drop a lot of spots. At least based on his spring training performance. I wonder if LeCure might move up some spots too...seeing as how the Reds clearly like him as a major leaguer in some capacity. |

Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
I just wanted to bump this thread to discuss who has jumped the most in your mind.
Mine is easy: David Vidal. I really didn't know anything about him this year, but through 8/11/11, he has 17 bombs and a .883 OPS playing good defense at the hot corner. I would have to think that he will make my top 20, and may even crack my top 10 next year. |

20, 21, 30 all will see big jumps in the next ranking in my guess.

Re: RedsZone's Top 50 Prospects
For sure those are the biggest. I would add 37 and 45 after those three.

Agree with all the numbers I've seen so far and will add in 45. He should go much higher.

Phipps. He's been hitting long enough that it doesn't look like a fluke.
