More than 1.4 million SDG&E customers are without power, with millions of people affected by the outage. All other service providers have power. California Independent System Operator is helping to bring power back on.

An SDG&E official just stated, "We expect power to be out well into the night and into tomorrow in some areas."

A transmitter line between Arizona and California was severed, causing both major connections in the region, causing the outage. The extreme heat in some areas also may have caused some problems with the lines, according to SDG&E.

"Essentially we have two connections from the rest of the world: One of from the north and one is to the east. Both connections are severed," said the SDG&E official.

Maybe you should think of unplugging something there at the house Rob?

If it makes those in that beautiful area of our nation feel any better...

* 3 years ago (?) we had hurricane winds in Ohio. About this tiem fo the year b/c I was watching NFL week 1 on Sunday when it happened. MY power was out for 5 days!

* Last winter we had a bad ice storm in Southern Ohio. I was without power for 3 days. Had to sleep on my cousin's couch, who lost power for only 1 day, b/c the temperature in my house by the 2nd day was 37 degrees.

Needless to say I have learned to keep candles (and a lighter) and flaslights (w/ extra batteries).

5 days? Pft. Sat here without power for a week during that one. You know what the solution to the problem was? A guy with a 15 foot pole pushing a button near the top of the telephone pole. Only four houses on my street were without power, so we weren't a priority. Took the guy all of 30 seconds to diagnosis and fix the problem. Still irked about that one. Big time.

Never forget that as long as I live. It was week 2:

Tree came through the front door of my house shortly after that game ended.

Look at the passing numbers in that game, the wind was nuts.

One of my Facebook friends there was marveling that the kids in the local school district got the day off. I imagine with the consistently fine weather there, an unplanned day off of school is a rare thing.
