Re: Arrested Development - the Movie!

I hated this show when it was on originally. I really wanted to like it, given the praise it got, but I just felt the entire thing was too smug and self-referential for it's own good.

It was like I could see the writers giving themselves high-five for being so awesome while every episode was going on, and it was just a tremendous turn-off for me.

You probably don't like Wes Anderson movies either, do you?

Actually, I love Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. At the heart of those movies are great characters -- people that you could relate to somewhat, as odd as they all were.

Contrast that with Arrested Development: Everyone in Arrested Development was so zany and odd that they had absolutely no believability to them. Plus, on top of being unbelievable, the majority of them were just miserable people. It was like taking all of the stuff that turned people off about "Seinfeld" and mixing that with a lot of zany and wacky antics and calling it a day.

I gave up on it after about 2 episodes when it first came out. But I recently have been watching it on Netflix and it really is actually quite good.

My son and I watched every episode on Net Flix this summer. He had been telling me there was a movie in the making. We can't wait.

Re: Arrested Development - the Movie!

When I read about this yesterday, all I could think was "wow". There really is no other show I would want to see come back more than Arrested Development. In the last month I've been putting quotes from the show on my facebook and after each one asking "how did this show get canceled?"

1. No one was watching because;
a. Fox kept moving the show around and
b. The show's humor just wasn't for everyone -- it was too smart for most Americans who prefer to just watch Randy Jackson kissing teenager's rear ends.

Is that a rhetorical answer?
