Re: 2011 Bengals Discussion Part II

If Gresham had not run out of bounds with 4:45 remaining the clock would not have stopped. Gave the Texans an extra 40 seconds to work with at the end.

As usual it was terrible clock management that cost the Bengals. Too many mental mistakes, which is a sign of poor coaching.

And the false start on 4th and inches.

I always hear this.... but I don't buy it on things like false starts and running out of bounds. These guys have been playing football their entire lives. Those things are on them. They know to stay in bounds and keep the clock running. They know the snap count. A coach isn't in there ear on every play telling them "Stand up and block now" or "stay in bounds". These are things that guys need to know by the time they get to the NFL.

These guys are not too smart. The coaches MUST keep telling them because week after week, year after year they do the same thing. If the coaches don't drill it into their brains they won't remember. Obviously they don't remember.

You can pinpoint time management "mistakes" starting from the mid 4th quarter if you really want to play that game.

The bottom line is, the Bengals so called great defense allowed a 5th round rookie QB, who was missing his best target, to march down the field in a little over 2 minutes to score the game winning TD.

The Bengals wouldn't have done much in the playoff with their abysmal secondary anyways, but even with that said, they don't deserve to make the playoffs. Absolutely pitiful loss.

We've seen this types of losses far too many times under Marvin's tenure here. And people wonder why attendance is low...everytime you think they've "turned the corner," they give you a jab to the nuts.

What can you even say? Playoffs on the line and they have a fourth quarter like that? Just pathetic all the way around, from coaches to players.

If they somehow win the next three games and make the playoffs (lol) they will get destroyed in the first round by somebody.

A complete meltdown that leads to an 8-8 finish would not surprise me.

Yeah....this one stings.

When was the last time we could cover a TE, the 1980s? How many times can you get beat on shallow crossing routes?

Oh well, all things considered it's been a better year than expected. This just freaking sucks right now.

Exactly. When those two dummies didn't secure the ball, that, to me, was the turnings point of the game. They could have iced the game right there with just a field goal.

Nice to see Benson is the kind of RB you can lean on with the lead.

If he's on this roster in 2012 this franchise is stupider than I thought.

Marvin Lewis. What is the record for longest coaching gig without winning a playoff game?

Cincinnati, a town that rewards mediocrity.

Not only rewards, but embraces it.

Please. This town has been wanting to run Marvin out of here for YEARS and YEARS. This town's majority has been wanting to run Dusty Baker out of town since before he was even hired (when the rumors started). The owners may reward them for it, but don't lump the town up in that.

Today's loss is all on Zimmer, not Lewis.

Re: 2011 Bengals Discussion Part II

Some quick math shows their opponents winning pct. in Bengals wins is .326. In Bengal losses their opponents are .750.

The Bengals record is what it is this year due to the cupcake schedule earned by their performance last season. The franchise is certainly heading in the right direction, but they are a ways from being serious contenders for anything more than a first round playoff pushover.

Ok, a town with franchises that rewards mediocrity. Better?

And two fanbases that are apathetic to it all.

I'm not sure Cincinnati is even an average sports town anymore. When I was a kid, it was one of the best.
