Partch must be a stuff guy because he doesn't look like a numbers guy. If that makes sense.

Maybe Quezada has a little Volquez in him.

Oh, that makes sense. So does Partch to the bullpen. (And no, that's not off one poor start. It's off three or four years of them. With, granted, some nice ones mixed in.)

Re: Friday, April 6, 2012 Minor League Updates
Montgomery putting the Blue in Wahoo tonight. The Biscuits, or is it Biskits, lead 9-3 heading into the 9th. Gameday is slacking. Drew Hayes will pitch the 9th. PJ Phillips into right field.
Hayes skipped a level, making his AA debut. Drew Hayes was Mr. Tennessee football his senior year. He holds a national record with 46 completions in one game. Annnnd he walks the first batter he faces. Wahoo announcers state the jump from A to AA is the biggest adjustment a player will have to make. Annnnd he strikes out the second batter he faces. 9 Ks by Wahoo pitchers tonight. Swing and a miss. Another K for Hayes. F7. Wahoos need six to tie and seven to win.

Re: Friday, April 6, 2012 Minor League Updates
Blaze score in the second on a Vidal single, walks to Mattair and Lohman and a ground out.
Sharky gets bit in the third. A two-out throwing error on Slidin' Billy Hamilton leads to four unearned runs. One of the newer Reds, John Holdzkom, comes on in the third and gives up a single and gets the third out on a K.

Sorry to see Hayes and Manno wasted in a 9-3 loss. But such are the minor leagues.

The pitch counts on the box scores this year are not correct. Quezada threw about 80 pitches.

In 1.1 IP, John Holdzkom, who has been known to have a wee bit of difficulty with the control, has three walks and three wild pitches. Bakersfield trails 6-1.

Re: Friday, April 6, 2012 Minor League Updates
Submitted for your approval. Visalia's 4th. One bunt hit. Three walks. One throwing error. One passed ball. One steal. Two wild pitches that allowed runs to score. One caught stealing on which the trail runner advanced a base. One pick off. One strike out. The bunt, which probably went about 60 feet, was the only ball in the inning hit. There is, however, no truth to the rumor that every player will get an ice cream cone after the game.

Quote:
At the levels below AA, they don't have the same kind of stringers. All those guys do is track the final result of the play and an approximate hit location data when the ball is put in play. With pitches, for a non walk/non strikeout the pitcher is only awarded one pitch no matter the actual amount of pitches thrown. With a walk, he gets 4 balls and no strikes awarded to him, even if he had a 20 pitch at bat. For strikeouts, you get 3 strikes no matter how many you actually threw. I don't know why the pitch counts were added to the lower levels this year if they aren't going to have a stringer actually keeping track of them.

Re: Friday, April 6, 2012 Minor League Updates
David Vidal with a two-run blast in the 9th.
Ex-position player Michael Griffin pitched a scoreless frame, allowing one hit and striking out a couple.

Re: Friday, April 6, 2012 Minor League Updates
It would be great if someone could get Michael Griffin's velocity. If I recall, he was throwing around 93-94 when he did spot relief for the Bats in 2009 or so. Or maybe that was Luis Bolivar? Regardless, Griffin was surprisingly effective back then.
