My answer to that would be he was a first-round choice and a lot of people ragged on him from the start because the Reds could have had Tim Lincecum. So Stubbs was a whipping boy from the start to some extent.

I'm as optimistic as a person can be, and old enough to not be prone to knee-jerk reactions, but it's hard not to think we're seeing what this team really is, as opposed to a team just getting off to a slow start. I think the pitching will come around, but the offense? Not so much.

That is the very reason I've always defended Stubbs. That and I'm stubborn as hell and hate to be wrong.
