Aroldis pitching in a 6-0 game? What was Dusty thinking?

Our most dominant reliever (who supposedly can't EVER pitch 2 days in a row) is wasted in a 6-0 game? Now when we need him in a close game tomorrow, Crusty will say he didn't want to use him 2 days in a row. Friggen brilliant. Crusty might be be the dumbest manager I've ever seen in my 40 years of following MLB. He can even find a way to screw up a 6-0 victory. Unbelievable.

Re: Aroldis pitching in a 6-0 game? Is Crusty on crack or something?

there's a decent amount of the reds bullpen doing good.

Logan o (pitched today)

J.J. Hoover (pitched yesterday)

Jose Arredondo (pitched yesterday)

Alfredo Simon (I'm not sure but i think he did also)

Sam LeCure (not sure but you have to save him for longer than 1 inning here in case Latos gets in trouble early)

Sean Marshall (I guess he could pitch but no need to waste him here in case he has to pitch tomorrow.)

so idk I don't see the big deal.

Yeah....his reason will be "he needs work to stay sharp"

They all do....I didn't like bringing in Ondrusek either.

Chapman struggles some in the cooler weather.

Very intelligent counter argument, you must be a regular Albert Einstein.

Pretty much this. You can't wear other guys out avoiding non closer arms in your pen. Chapman pitching today is a direct result of leake and our defenses poor effort yesterday.

I don't see saving LeCure in case Latos has trouble. If LeCure throws 2 innings today you have everyone available tomorrow if Latos struggles.

If you don't want people to react badly, don't start threads titled "Is Crusty on crack?" where you refer to him as the "dumbest manager ever". You can get your point across without being so over the top. Just my $.02

But for that matter, there's also no need for anyone to add on and call the original poster "the dumbest poster ever", which is also unnecessary and over the top. So I guess what I'm saying is play more nicely, everyone.

Attempting to understand Dusty's use of the bulllpen is futile....

Re: Aroldis pitching in a 6-0 game? What was Dusty thinking?

I know this won't satisfy the OP, but the explanation is quite simple, and most managers would do it (following some of the unwritten rules of baseball).

1) You don't use your "closer" in a non-save situation.

2) You do use your next-best bullpen arm, especially if he might be a future closer and he can "audition" in a "fake save" last-inning situation.

Not saying I would necessarily follow those rules (I don't like the whole "closer" concept), but I know Dusty loves those kinds of "rules" (the catcher hits 8th), so there ya go.

Use LeCure in the 6-0 game for two innings and you are at full strength next game if needed.....use Ondrusek and Chapman and you have less for use in tomorrow's unknown game. If you have 2 or 3 blowouts in a row then you definitely will have everyone including Chapman, Marshall and Ondrusek pitching in unneeded situations...but to simply get in some work.

Not a huge deal that he pitched yesterday....but knowing how Dusty uses the bullpen in extras it's perplexing to say the least.
