Re: Robin Gibb RIP
It is hard to believe that there is only one singing Gibb brother left (incl. Andy). Makes me feel one of two thinsg or perhaps a little bit of both... I am getting old or they are passing too early.

Re: Robin Gibb RIP
R.I.P. Robin Gibb. The music business has lost some great ones lately. Houston,Summer and now Robin Gibb. The Bee Gees were really, really big in the 70's. One top hit after another. Just in the last few years did I realize that they had a few hits in the late 60's too. I think I enjoyed those songs better than their 70's disco stuff.

Re: Robin Gibb RIP
Nice obit in the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/21/ar...ies-at-62.html
The Bee Gees were always a bit of an enigma to me. As Cumberlandreds noted, they first rose to fame in the late 60's and that's when I first new of them, while I was in my junior high years. I wasn't a big fan, but liked their stuff and I think I actually had a copy of their 45 "The New York Mining Disaster, 1941." As the obit notes, their career waned as rock moved to a harder edge. It was very interesting to read about their recreation in the 70's with the rise of disco (a phase I thankfully missed - never wore a leisure suit, thank you very much), but in more recent years, I realized they wrote some great songs that really moved (and were easy to dance to, if that was your thing - I'm in the three left feet category myself). There are clips of the brothers from as early as 1963 when the twins were just 14 from Australian TV shows. I actually was very surprised that Robin (and Maurice) were as young as they were, almost exactly just a year old than my oldest brother. When they started charting their first hit records, they were just 18.

Re: Robin Gibb RIP
We had their Saturday Night Fever soundtrack on vacation last year and my kids loved it. The songs are great and I've always been struck by Robin's ability to make the lyrics sound so urgent, no matter how inane.
I offer: Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk, I'm a woman's man; no time to talk. Music loud and women warm, I've been kicked around since I was born. RIP Robin Gibb, every time I hear your voice my mind returns to Summer at the swim club where they blared Q102.
