Re: Reds vs. Pirates Tuesday 5/29

Double-digits retired in a row for Homer.

I understand it, a lot of managers are that way, but with the team we have I'm pretty sure Valdez could catch if someone got hurt. That backup catcher is going to be our best available PHer most nights.

I would rather have Hanigan or Mes pinch hit and save Valdez for an emergency than have Valdez pinch hit and save Hanigan or Mes.

Wow. Homer is rolling. Nice job.

So, will Pedro Alvarez ever become an All-Star caliber third baseman? I thought he was a great pick back in '08. Granted he's still young, but he hasn't gotten better -- in fact he's gone the other way -- since his rookie season.

I don't think it's just Dusty, very rare do you ever see the backup catcher pinch hit.

I'll buy that for a dollar.

Just because everyone does it doesn't make it right.

Yep, same here. That emergency situation is highly unlikely anyway, and if it happened I think we'd all give Dusty a pass for getting stuck with Valdez for a few innings behind the plate.

Very true. The backup catcher is routinely the last man on the bench throughout baseball.

I like this David Bailey guy.

Question: Mesoraco was talking about Bailey using his curve, slider, and splitter more.

He didn't mention the changeup...that Bailey K'd a couple guys with tonight.

That isn't the splitter, is it?

Homer has made a believer out of me. He turned whichever corner he needed to turn.

I hope Frazier can become that kind of hitter, but entering tonight he was hitting .229 in his last ten games. He's been huge tonight though.

Dusty did insert Mes in a game this year to pinch-run for Hanigan.

I think it is the splitter that he's he's been throwing to the lefties.
