If every player makes as good contact as Heisey did on that pitch I don't care if Diamond pitches a 27 pitch perfect game.

Firstly, Hesey crushed that pitch.

Secondly, you let a strike go by and start out 0-1 your hitting ability goes down considerably.

The stats clearly show that if you get a first pitch strike you should generally swing at it.

And working the count generally means taking balls, not taking strikes, and swinging and missing. If the pitcher is a "pitch to contact" type pitcher ( as this starter is), the pitches will get worse as you get behind in the count.

We all agree that working the count is a good thing, but you can't guarantee it just becuse you want to go to a full count every batter. You start by letting strikes go by and you be shut out before you know it. The job of every pitcher to to prevent you from "working the count".

For some reason you seem to be under the impression that if you take the first pitch it will be a ball.

I think what he really means is he would take Heisey's contact on every pitch.

FWIW, the best contact on any pitch today is by Heisey's first pitch swing.

Just like the time Baxter ate the whole wheel of cheese, I wouldn't be mad, I'd be impressed.
