UFC 148

Any Redszoners excited for tomorrow night Silva vs Sonnen II UFC 148? Been a long time since they have had a fight that had me this excited. Can't wait for tomorrow night.

I'm pumped.

I just hope Chael can pass his whiz quiz this time.

I will be watching. Not any more excited for this than most other cards though.

Had a hearty chuckle when Chael was on the Lebatard show and the elevated test was mentioned, looked like Chael's jimmies got rustled pretty good.

Didn't realize you were into MMA Doug. It just hasn't felt like the UFC has had a really big fight in a long time. Jon Jones has pretty much wrecked the 205 division. And I would like to see a Dos Santos/Velasquez rematch but Dos Santos vs Mir never did anything for me.

I would love to see Jon Jones go up to Heavyweight. I think that is the only place where he will find someone that will push him and even then, I think only the top 3 guys could do it.

The heavyweight division isn't doing much for me right now. I am all for a JDS/CV rematch. The last one didn't go all that well and I think that at the very least we would get a better fight knowing what we know now. Frank Mir.... meh. Past his prime, a little too slow for the top guys.

I think Jon Jones has to move up but I think it will be awhile before he bumps up. I could go without ever seeing Frank Mir fight again. I guess it is not his fault he was given a title shot but I was annoyed to see him in that spot on a card. I think everyone knew JDS would go right through him. The sport really needs a healthy GSP too.

I can't believe how excited I am for tonight. I hope Anderson Silva completely crushes Sonnen.

Re: UFC 148

That went about how I expected.

Chael needed to fight the perfect fight for 25 minutes to beat Silva. Last time he managed to do that for 23 minutes before making a mistake. This time he only made it 7 minutes. He was still able to do some of the things that made him so successful in the first fight, but the second he made that mistake, Silva jumped all over it and ended the fight.

Re: UFC 148

At first, that knee from Silva had me thinking he was going to lose it because of that. Especially when the ref initially jumped towards them after it happened. But on replay it was clearly to the body and I am glad that it wasn't as I originally thought.

Re: UFC 148

Gotta be honest, was hoping for the knee by Anderson to be illegal so we could have an excuse for a third fight, and more epic promotion by Chael. I mean, who else is Anderson going to fight at this stage? Doesn't at all seem interested in fighting Jones, or anyone else at 205 for that matter, and GSP has never once seemed interested in fighting him in a superfight. So what else is there? On another note, Forrest Griffin wins dee-bag of the night for his "hilarious" interview of one of the biggest stars of all time in the sport after his swan song. Lame.

I didn't see it that way at all. I also think that 'one of the biggest stars of all time in the sport' is also one of, if not the most overrated fighters of all time.

I certainly would agree he wasn't one of the BEST fighters of all time, but one of the biggest stars. Of course Tito dominated an era where MMA wasn't nearly as popular as it is today, and fighters weren't crosstrained nearly as well, if at all. I know he wouldn't have had the long title run he did if he won it in, say, 2006, let alone 2012. I don't think there is much of a dispute about his status as one of the biggest stars of all time, he's one of the fighters that's crossed over into some mainstream and popculture notoriety, and the gate numbers and PPV numbers he drew over the years would certainly attest to that. He was unquestionably the most popular UFC fighter until the sport blew up with the popularity of Liddell and Couture. And he did something of a "heel turn" playing off of those two in particular, being in the same division. I'm not even a huge Tito fan, but just how I see it, as someone who's been a fan of the sport from the "in the dark" days of SEG-owned UFC when tape-trading was about the only way to see it and PRIDE for a while.

Re: UFC 148

Tito vs. Liddell was the first PPV I ever watched and the fight that got me hooked on MMA.

I watched the first UFC live on tv and rented the next handful from a local video store. Ah, the good ole days. Tito was popular, but I never really understood why. Never really was a fan of the guy.
