That's a nicely pitched game. Bailey, then Chapman. 13 games over .500 now.

Note to Miami Marlins: Come on, you batch of overpaid, pastel-wearing, ugly-fountain-having underachievers. Try harder.

Re: 7/20/12 - Reds vs Brewers

Since Chappy started throwing his breaking pitches more, and not go all out every pitch, he can pitch in relief more often. He looked pretty effortless out there.

Right. But it's still a bizarre platoon.

If we play them later this year and they pound the bejeezus out of us...we're getting the torches and pitchforks and coming to your house for a firm talkin' to.

It's not a platoon. Heisey came in for defensive purposes.

Ok, let me be more specific.

Heisey and Luwick share LF. I believe it is a bizarre arrangement. Both are right handed hitters. They seem to use Heisey against lefties, even though he has hit lefties generally poorly during his career. Some nights it is completely unclear why one player plays and the other sits.

It is not lefty/righty, which is the classic platoon.

And in this case, tonight, yes, Heisey came in for defensive purposes because he is excellent defensively in LF. Ludwick is not as good defensively. And it was late in a close game.

Overall, however, I think it is a very unusual and odd arrangement. Therefore, I referred to it as a strange platoon, or whatever.

Re: 7/20/12 - Reds vs Brewers

I don't think there's much difference defensively between Ludwick and Heisey in LF. Sure, Heisey is the better defensive OF overall, but that's because he can play CF. Ludwick is very fundamentally sound in LF.

The double switch was made last night to move the pitcher's spot in the batting order back. Any improvement defensively in LF, however slight, was incidental. Remember, Ludwick came in for Heisey as part of a double switch in Thursday's game.
