We just got back from Vegas. The input here was amazingly helpful.

We did a lot of walking from casino to casino to restaurants. It was in the 90s, but it was a dry, tolerable heat. We also purchased 24 hour bus passes for trips to Fremont Street and the farther reaches of the strip.

We did a little gambling and lots of people watching. There certainly are all kinds there. On walks between locations, we were usually confronted by little people (porn slappers) handing out cards with naked women and numbers to call. I collected a lot, but our 28-year-old daughter had more than 400. She said she was going to invent a drinking game or figure a way to use them for currency back in Little Rock.

We saw a pretty amazing, sexy pirate show at (I think) Treasure Island while we ate on the deck of Senior Frogs. Fremont Street was a neat experience. The late night ceiling show featuring Queen and amazing visuals was quite amazing.

We saw the Phatom of the Opera which was very good/confusing with amazing special effects. We were going to see Love on Wednesday, but contrary to posters around town, it wasn't playing on Wednesday. We usually ended every night/early morning listening to talented kareoke singers and drinking $9 pitchers of beer at Wild Bill's Gambling Hall next door to the Flamingo.

I won't go into everything we did, but it was a great experience. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. This forum is the best place to go for advice from worldly, experienced people.

Also, we saw Pete Rose sitting at a table rapidly signing his name multiple times to what looked like sheets of stickers. He was at a mall store (maybe attached to the Bellagio) that featured autographed memorabilia. The store was virtually empty, and I stood there and politely waited to talk to him. He never looked up. He did glare at me when I asked the Asian woman standing there if he was her father.

I was a little embarrassed. I have talked about and defended Pete Rose to my kids their entire lives. They are in their twenties and have heard me explain how he played the game, and how I considered him the heart of the Big Red Machine. I have bragged about a brief conversation I had with him in (I believe) the Sheraton in Boston after the Reds arrived for the 1975 World Series.

He was not friendly or receptive Wednesday. He doesn't owe me anything, but I hope he doesn't think I would give a dime for one of his mass produced autographs.

He yelled at my buddy (who was eight) for not having a pen when he asked for an autograph at the Cincinnati Gardens

My buddy said after that day he was a Johnny Bench man

I love JB but he is a notorious jerk also. Jerks or not though I am glad they were both Reds.
