Japandroids - Celebration Rock
I'll give this new sub-forum a shot with a thread solely dedicated to a recently released album.
Japandroids - Celebration Rock ![]() Is anybody else as enthusiastic about Vancouver band Japandroid's Celebration Rock as I am? I posted a song in the main music thread a few weeks back. It's easily my favorite release of the year--in quite some time really. Noise is part of the two-piece band's formula, although there are very clear hooks as well. The album was recorded live and there is very little studio magic--what you hear is pure rock and roll. I feel that the songs have the sound to appeal to the indie crowd and the 20-something partying lyrics that appeal to any rock music fan. David Prowse is a powerhouse of a drummer. Supposed to put on one hell of a live show too. The song I posted before and my favorite from the record: Japandroids - Younger Us - YouTube Both of these songs have actually been out for over a year IIRC. Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built - YouTube

Re: Japandroids - Celebration Rock
Celebration Rock is a really solid record, I probably prefer it over Post-Nothing. It has been a rather great year for guitar records in the vain of 90s post-hardcore releases (Cloud Nothings, Screaming Females, The Men).
That said, I'd definitely recommend checking out The Gun Club's Fire of Love, the album "For the Love of Ivy" is from.....definitely one of my favorite records of all time and definitely under appreciated.

Re: Japandroids - Celebration Rock
You can really hear their influence in Japandroid's sound. Just listened to the album, pretty solid. Didn't seem like the production has aged well though, unfortunately...

Re: Japandroids - Celebration Rock
I hear a lot of The Gun Club in The Pixies.
Which isn't much of a shocker, as Black Francis has admitted as such. But having just listened to The Gun Club, I hear, more or less, the foundation of The Pixies sound. |
