Anyone know if he's mixing up his pitches fairly well tonight or is he relying on his heater(s).

Any reports on Ramono's velocity. Before short season ball started, I heard he could touch mid-90's.

Brian Pearl gives it up--three in the eighth, on top of one charged to De La Rosa--and the Wahoos trail 4-2 going into the ninth. Nothing more for Billy.

Louisville falls to Charlotte 5-3. Not much happening with the bats, only five hits. Gregorius and Soto doubled. Costanzo, Miller and Harris singled. On the bump, Nick Masset started and went two innings, giving up a run but also striking out four. Reineke took over and allowed three runs in five innings of work. 'Didn't you used to be' Jordan Smith (5.06) worked a frame and gave up a run.

Pensacola's bully gives up four in the eighth as they fall 4-2 to Mobile. Seven hits for the Blue Fish. Ryan LaMarre and Tony Cingrani with two each. Cingrani struck out 10 while hurling five shutout innings. Josh Ravin worked a scoreless pair. De la Rosa and Pearl (7.01) spit the bit in the eighth.

San Jose wallops Bakersfield 9-1. Not much going on here. Steve Selsky with two hits to push his average to .340. Duran, Wright and Vicioso with one hit each. Walczak gave up seven hits and issued five free passes in 2.1 innings of work. McMyne surrendered three runs in his one inning on the mound. Andrew Brackman is still trying to get it together, allowing two runs in his one frame. Carlos Contreras worked his first inning in High A and was perfect, striking out a pair.

Dayton was defeated 7-0. Tough night at the plated for the farm teams. Dragons could only muster five harmless singles. Jacob Johnson got cuffed around. Carlos Gonzalez and Jimmy Moran, two scoreless inning innings apiece, were about the only bright spots.

Re: Wednesday 8/15/2012 Minor League Updates

Sal Romano pitched a dandy for Billings. He struck out nine in his five innings. The bullpen followed with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in the process. The Mustangs struck for five runs late to make this an 8-0 laugher. Taylor Wrenn, Daniel Pigott and
Carlos Sanchez with two hits on the night. Notable is that both of Sanchez' hits were triples, giving him eight on the season.

Mustangs infielder Taylor Wrenn couldn’t help but laugh when talking about teammate Carlos Sanchez’s speed — or lack thereof.

“He’s slow. Very slow. Just to confirm that,” Wrenn said.

It’s not necessarily a case of the tortoise keeping pace with the hare, but with two more triples in Billings’ 8-2 rubber-game victory over Idaho Falls on Wednesday Sanchez suddenly finds himself in a tie for the Pioneer League lead in three-baggers.

Not sure about his velocity but he must have the makings of a decent curveball.

“The first two innings he really had his curveball going, and I thought he was really aggressive with his fastball,” Kelly explained. “He pounded the zone with it, and he was able to elevate with two strikes and get some strikeouts. He just pitched with a lot more confidence tonight I thought.”

Re: Wednesday 8/15/2012 Minor League Updates

Romano's 4.66 ERA isn't all that impressive but look deeper and you see why the Reds like him. As an 18-year old in the Pioneer League he has an 8.16 K/9, 2.53 BB/9, has allowed 1 HR in 46.1 IP, and has a 2.64 FIP.
