Halladay puts down the Reds 1-2-3.

Halladay looks like himself now, so we really messed up. Of course, facing Cairo, Mes, and Leake isn't Murder's Row.

Base running is one of the few areas of the game where we as amateurs can be legitimately critical. There is simply no reason for that sort of blunder to ever happen at the ML level.

It might have been that Berry was signaling Phillips to hold at third, and Heisey thought that was for him.

It happens an awful lot with the trio of Stubbs, Bruce and Heisey. It gets tired after a while. A mistake like that in the playoffs against an elite pitcher will kill you.

Re: 8/20/2012 Reds at Phillies

As best I can gather, Berry held up the stop sign for Bruce or Phillips. Heisey thought it meant for him to stop so he held up at 3rd. Berry then basically pushed him towards home, at which point it was too late and he was out by a mile.

Whose fault that is, I'm not sure. But that type of miscommunication is inexcusable at the major (or minor) league level.

Surely Heisey has enough baseball instincts to know he could score from second on a hit. Surely.

Why was no one on first for that? Not that it matters

BTW, it's a 2-1 ballgame with Phils up in the bottom of the second. One on, one out.

Now first and third, one out, Halladay coming up.

Leake quite hittable so far, some shots hit hard.

Pitcher may bunt. Halladay bunting on first one, takes a strike. Now 0-2 count on foul bunt.

K swinging.
