No games scheduled in the Southern League. Not that Isaac was going to let anyone play anyway.

Travis Webb and Jordan Smith each gave up a run in their respective inning of work. Phipps doubled again and Didi singled him home again. Bats trail 4-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Devin Mesoraco was 1 for 4.

Re: Wednesday 8/29/2012 Minor League Updates
Ryan Kemp allowed an unearned run to tighten things up in Dayton. The Dragons lead 4-3 going into the ninth. In a strange twist Muhammad refused to go to the mound to pitch the ninth, and so they brought the mound to Muhammad. Let's see if that works out for El'Hajj. Nick O'Shea came on for Joey Votto and naturally he doubled. Lucas O'Rear worked a scoreless frame for Dayton, who surely must lead the league in apostrophied names.
Some posts are so good you just gotta go with them twice. This, however, is not one of those posts.

Edit: It proved to be a mountain that Muhammad could not master. Gave up two runs and took the loss. Last edited by mace; 08-29-2012 at 10:27 PM. |

Re: Wednesday 8/29/2012 Minor League Updates
Billings' bullpen--namely, Mike Saunders and Alejandro Chacin (Jose Amezcua did just fine)--blew a couple late leads and the Mustangs fell, 6-4. The splendiferous Jesse Winker had a couple doubles. He was, however, replaced by a pinch-runner, whatever that signifies.

Re: Wednesday 8/29/2012 Minor League Updates
In their final rodeo of the season, the AZL youngsters have hogtied the little Dodgers, 1-0, through six. Pedro Diaz got it going with three scoreless innings (4 K) and Abel De Los Santos followed with two (an Aroldis-like 5 K).

Re: Wednesday 8/29/2012 Minor League Updates
The AZL bullpen followed suit, giving up 3 runs late in a 3-1 loss. Abed de los Santos finished the year en fuego. In his last five appearances he cranked out this line:
6IP 1H 0R 3BB 14K.

Re: Wednesday 8/29/2012 Minor League Updates
Tim Crabbe pitched well for five innings but continuing with the theme of the night the bullpen surrendered five runs in the next two innings as Bakersfield fell 7-1. Theo Bowe doubled and nailed a runner at the plate. Niko Vazquez had a pair of two-baggers. Steve Selsky was held hitless but threw a runner out at second.

Winker is really having an incredible year for a kid straight out of high school. Hope he keeps it up at the other levels.
